"Not once during our entire basement finishing process did I question our decision to work with Mike Hessling at Catalyst (formerly Apex). The entire process took just over a month to go from a completely unfinished basement to a brand new, beautiful, rec room, office, and 3/4 bathroom. Mike even dealt with all the curve balls we threw him along the way, switching colors midway through painting, adding an additional cabinet here. He is the kind of contractor you dream of. He's hands-on, there first thing every morning doing so much of the work himself! And the coordination with all the subcontractors was amazing. Everyone knew when and where to be and what exactly needed to get done. To top it all off, he came in right on budget as quoted (which was very fair). Mike's brother Adam was also key in the build, working hard with Mike or on his own."

"Exceeded all expectations. Reached out to 7 Madison area interior contractors at the top of Yelp / Google in late July to get a quote for closet removal along with the possible addition of flooring work. Of the 7 contractors, 5 responded and came out to survey the job. Only 2 got back with rough quotes, a 3rd wanted ~$1k to come up with a quote. VM Contracting's quote and start date matched my rough budget and timeline expectations for the job, whereas some other quotes exceeded VM's by nearly 8x and could not begin work until 2-3 months later. Went ahead with VM and was not disappointed. They started work within ~2 weeks and I was so pleased with the closet work, that we expanded the scope to vinyl flooring & trim across the entire 1st floor. Again, the cost and timeliness were excellent. Would go to VM for any future work without hesitation."

"At the end of the inspection I was positive that I was not going to use him. He gave me like a huge laundry list of things that needed to be done. After he was finished he said that it would cost me $15000. There was no way all of this going be $15000. It was like these little things he tarried about because he wanted to get paid as the coupons were so cheap. He had no suggestions about minimum cost. The thing about him was he did not give us any options, everything he gave was for us to do things. There are always levels of priority and I did not get anything at all from him."

"I would like to say that we would use GF Company in the future.
The Positive:
 The sales representative, Ken Jr., was astounding.  His knowledge of his field was excellent and I enjoyed talking with him.  He was also very thorough with his estimate and writing down in great detail what we wanted to have done.  I hope we get him as our sales representative when it is time to do our roof or our windows.
The work was done exactly as Ken Jr. had written on the estimate.  For the most part the work matches the current look of the shed and it has already filled the water barrel.  
The Negatives:
It was difficult to communicate with GF Company.  We had originally received a quote from Rick a year before the work was done and we contacted GF Company many times to speak with him about getting the work done, but none of our phone calls were returned.  Finally we asked for someone new and we got Ken Jr. sent to us.
After we paid our half-down deposit, we were told that we would get a call in about three weeks to find a date for the work to be done.  After about 5 weeks we tried contacting GF Company.  One phone call had us speaking with a lady on the phone who said that someone would call us back soon, but that never happened.
We never received a call to tell us when the work would be done as we wanted to have someone home to make sure things were done to our specifications.  Several days after our phone call was not returned, we received a text message from our neighbor telling us that someone was doing work on our property, but my wife and I were both at work and by time we got home the work was done.  Since Ken Jr. did such a great job with writing down what we wanted, we did not have any issues with what was done.
It appears that one of the items created on site for our downspout on the shed was likely spray painted on site.  The paint job has already faded, but we can find some paint to paint it again.
Overall, it sounds like we had a bad experience, but we did not.  The work that was done was done well and the sales representative we worked with was very knowledgeable.  We would use GF Company again and recommend them, but encourage folks to have patience with communication.

"We chose Roseville Fireside because they had completed several previous jobs for us. I was very fortunate to have worked with Jamie Shea. He exceeded my expectations for customer service. He assisted us with picking out the proper color and stone style to compliment our wood floors and mahogany woodwork. He made a site visit to take measurements and thoroughly walked us through the process. Jamie was always prompt, courteous and very thorough. The mason crew of Randy and Andy were prompt, courteous and cleaned up the project area. I would highly recommend Fireside for updating a fireplace. "It went spectacularly. Not only was the work done exceptionally well, all of the inevitable "issues" that one runs into when renovating an old house was dealt with by Kitchen and Bath Solutions during the course of the project. When it became clear that I needed some unanticipated electrical work, framing work, and plumbing work to do the renovation that wasn't in the initial project description, Kitchen and Bath Solutions was not only able to identify the solutions, but also able to take care of making it happen in a way that minimized the impact on the project timeline. All at an excellent price. I was so happy with their work that I engaged them to install new hardwood floors throughout the house after they were done with the first job. Again, they did it rapidly, at an excellent price, and with great results. These folks transformed my mother's house. I can't say enough about Alberto, Elle, and the rest of the crew at kitchen and bath solutions. Not only do they help guide you through decisions, do excellent work, deal efficiently with unexpected "glitches", and offer a fair price: They also are the kind of people that you enjoy having in your house. This is critically important in deciding who to hire for a job of this scale, as it is inevitable that you will be needing to share your space with the contractors as the work is being done. As an example, my mother was living in the house for the ENTIRE time the renovations were happening. The Kitchen and Bath Solutions crew not only came in on weekends and worked around my mother's needs to make the disruption to my mother's life as short as possible, but they also helped her out with the other "little things" that she needed while they were transforming the house: They treated my mother like she was their mother. It was super valuable to know that you have people that you trust and like when you have to share your living space as much as you have to when doing a renovation on this scale. In summary: I highly recomend Kitchen and Bath Solutions based on the quality of their work, the fairness of their price, and the rapid pace at which they make the project happen: no matter what complications arise. I also recommend them highly because of the people they are: you can trust them completely and this removes a lot of the stress that accompanies renovation projects like this. I feel now like they are part of my extended family, I'm already thinking of the next project I would like them to help me on and I wouldn't go anywhere else."

"When we decided to redo our kitchen in April of 2012, we knew what we wanted fixed, our budget and that's about it. We started talking to contractors, kitchen design centers and researching ideas. We quickly realized we were in WAY over our heads. A lot of places offer free design services if you buy all of your materials through them. We didn't want to be tied down. We didn't want a complete tear down to the studs, either. Homemade Design to the rescue! First of all the price was an absolute steal for the service provided. Amanda and co. Listened to what we wanted and came up with inovative,functional and beautiful solutions. Our house is old. We wanted to keep that 1920s feel, but still have a dishwasher, granite countertops and stainless appliances! Amanda had the brilliant idea of only replacing the bottom cabinets. She also gave me excellent instructions on how to refinish my existing cabinets so they look like new. This was a perfect solution for US. Homemade Design gave us ideas for layout, cabinets, lighting, wall paint, appliances, furniture, countertops, backsplash, faucets, sink,and cusions for built in. She would have recommended flooring if we wanted,but we didn't. Now, Amanda is more like a consultant...( I actually called her my kitchen remodel therapist). You still are ultimately responsible for the plan and what works for you. If your measurements are off (like mine were) that's on you. I was adament about no island and no microwave over the stove and so she didn't put those in the design. Some suggestions were not my style. And I said so. Honestly, if I picked out my own kitchen it would be so safe: white subway tile or something. Amanda gave me the guts to mix patterns and create something spectacular! It took almost a year to complete ( contractors fault) We did a lot of work ourselves. We bought the cabinets, backsplash tile, light fixtures, table and banquette cusions through Homemade Design at a great discount, we checked!! If you try shopping for any part of your kitchen, the volume of choices can be overwhelming. We loved having Amanda narrow it down for us. Communication was through email, mostly. She never took longer than three business days to respond to my million questions or concerns. Awesome. 5 months later, my kitchen is a dream come true. And I owe it all to Homemade Design!
