While you technically can put wallpaper in a bathroom, it doesn’t mean you should. Most experts would not recommend hanging wallpaper over existing wallpaper more than twice. Even if the walls are in good condition and primed well, that third layer of wallpaper could cause problems with adhesion. Unless you like bubbling paint and peeling wallpaper as an interior design choice, it’s better to remove at least one existing layer before adding any more to a wall.

If you need a stronger magnetic surface, or you need to use a different type of paint in the room (like waterproof paint in a damp basement), there are other accessible options. You could fit a steel panel over the wall, try magnetic wallpaper, or apply chalk paint instead. 

If you want an inexpensive shortcut, hang a pinboard or chalkboard on your wall. These removable options are ideal if you’re a renter who can’t repaint or plan to move in the near future.

You can put wallpaper in a bathroom, but peel-and-stick wallpaper sometimes doesn’t adhere as well in a humid bathroom as traditional wallpaper with adhesive. If your bathroom has fans that aid in ventilation, you can reduce problems with humidity for peel-and-stick wallpaper. Selecting a vinyl- or polyester-based peel-and-stick wallpaper should give you more durable results than other materials.
