"Very knowledgeable about fire codes. I wanted to do something that I didn't know was not per code. A different contractor recommended this action. As soon as I discussed my plan with Isaac, he told me it was not per code. They did a great job repairing and resurfacing our fireplace. They also repaired the mortar on both of our chimneys. Great work. Friendly crew."

"Justin and Rachel are an awesome team to work with. Justin was quick to come out and give a great and detailed quote, he was quick to answer any questions we had and excited to work with us on our chimney and fireplace rebuild. Justin's work ethic is fantastic, he came to the project early and got straight to work and always had a clean work area and made sure he cleaned up before he left for the day. We are really happy with the work he did. Rachel kept us well informed and made the process of setting up the work schedule a breeze. They both were always quick with responses and we never felt out of the loop or worried during this project."

"Great. Randy was very punctual, and professional. He took pictures of the top of the chimney while he was on the roof to show us the condition of it and to explain what he did. He cleaned up everything when done and the fireplace looked great."

"Yonir was very timely, friendly, and efficient. He explained the issues in the fireplace from the prior owners and then made sure to work with others to set up a proper hearth. He also made sure that the site was clean after he completed his work. Responsiveness was excellent and he was very thorough - highly recommend."

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

Well-seasoned hardwoods like oak, maple, hickory, and ash are the cleanest woods to burn in a fireplace. When properly dried, these woods have low moisture content, allowing them to burn hotter and produce less smoke, which minimizes creosote buildup. Ensure the wood is seasoned for at least six months for optimal burning.

Depending on the model of your fireplace, you can leave your pilot light on year-round. This does use a small amount of fuel, so you’ll save on your energy bill by turning off the pilot light seasonally. Keep in mind that some gas fireplace models don’t have a standing pilot light.

No, a chimney crown is not the same as a chimney cap. A chimney crown is a flat cement area on top of a masonry chimney. It starts where the masonry part of the chimney ends at the very top and domes upward toward the flue opening. A chimney cap sits on top of the crown over the flue. It is usually made of metal and allows smoke to escape without letting in rainwater.

Yes, there are regulations on using wood stoves, particularly concerning emissions and installation standards. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) sets emission limits for wood stoves to ensure they burn cleaner and more efficiently. Additionally, local building codes may have specific requirements for installation and venting, so it's essential to check with local authorities before installing or upgrading your stove.

You don’t necessarily need a chimney for a pellet stove. However, all pellet stoves need some type of venting system to get rid of gasses and other potentially harmful byproducts of combustion. If you don’t have a chimney, an alternative option is to vent your pellet stove through an exterior wall of your home.
