"Everyone at Cascade Fire Solutions have been exceptional. They came, reviewed the issue, advised me on the cost to replace or repair- I chose to repair and scheduled the repair. The tech who did the actual work was awesome the fireplace works like it did when it was new and he cleaned up the surround and fake logs so everything is bright and new looking. Fireplace works great now."

"The scheduling was extremely easy and fast - they were scheduled the same week I contacted them. They arrive within the window stated and completed the job in the same window. The gentlemen were very professional and curious, leaving my fireplace cleaner than when they arrived. The chimney was extremely dirty with soot and they cleaned it out and it now draws better than ever before. They did recommend one fix to the fireplace which we will do if we decide to keep the wood-burning fireplace and not replace it with gas (which we are considering). We will use this company to service our chimney going forward and would highly recommend them."

"Yonir was very timely, friendly, and efficient. He explained the issues in the fireplace from the prior owners and then made sure to work with others to set up a proper hearth. He also made sure that the site was clean after he completed his work. Responsiveness was excellent and he was very thorough - highly recommend."

"Not knowing anything about gas fireplaces Morgan took the time to explain how to properly start and maintain the fireplace. He also took the time to check the other two fireplaces as well. I was very pleased with his professional work ethics."

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

No, you should never leave a fireplace burning overnight or unattended during the day. While fireplaces are made to contain fires, fires can and do spread from fireplaces, so it’s crucial that you’re there to monitor them and put them out if needed. If you’re worried about putting out a fire before bed, stop feeding it fuel long before bedtime and actively put out the fire using your poker, a shovel, and some baking soda.

No, a chimney crown is not the same as a chimney cap. A chimney crown is a flat cement area on top of a masonry chimney. It starts where the masonry part of the chimney ends at the very top and domes upward toward the flue opening. A chimney cap sits on top of the crown over the flue. It is usually made of metal and allows smoke to escape without letting in rainwater.

There are several ways to determine if your chimney or fireplace damper is open or closed. A simple method is to check for airflow by placing your hand near the fireplace opening; if you feel a draft or hear wind whistling, the damper is open. An open damper might also make the room feel cooler, similar to the outdoor temperature, or cause your HVAC system to work harder than usual. For a more definitive test, you can try a visual inspection, although it may be difficult to see. Alternatively, you can light a small piece of paper and observe the smoke; if it is drawn up the chimney, the damper is open. Always use the damper handle to adjust its position.

A chimney liner isn’t required for an outdoor fireplace; you don’t technically need one if the masonry chimney uses the proper dimensions and is built to code. However, a chimney liner does serve as a protective coating for the flue. Adding a liner could improve performance, safety, and durability. In short, while not necessary, it wouldn’t hurt.

Minor cleaning and maintenance are DIY-friendly, but professionals should handle structural or electrical repairs.
