I had to hire a roofer to add more roof anchors because of the steepness of my roof (for $500 not included in the amount below). Bay windows are not easy to install because they are heavy and require specific tools and woodworking experience. You’ll also need to install a roof cab, flashing, and shingles. Ensuring the window is level and sealed can be tricky but it is important because it prevents air leakage and water from entering your home. While plywood will keep winds and debris from shattering your windows from the outside, window film can help protect your windows from the inside. Window film can keep a window from shattering. If your windows break, the film can hold the shards of glass in place, reducing the risk of cuts.

While you may sometimes see window film marketed as "hurricane window film," note that it doesn't provide sufficient hurricane protection on its own. It's no substitute for plywood, storm windows, or hurricane shutters.

Late spring through early fall is the best time of the year to replace windows. Ideally, you’ll want warm temperatures and minimal rain. Demand can be high just before summer and winter, though, so be sure to schedule well in advance to get your windows replaced before extreme temperatures arrive.
