"Vic did an excellent job for us on many projects--a major deck refinishing, rebuilding a 100+-year old window seat, resuspending sagging kitchen cabinets, repairing and replacing some outdoor cedar siding and stairs. These varied projects required not only excellent carpentry but also innovative thinking to resolve some of the construction issues involved in this quirky old house. We were expecting to have to replace the deck but he convinced us it would be better, and more cost effective, to instead refinish the old cedar boards, replacing only a few boards--and he was right. He could have charged us more for new decking, but didn't--this impressed us. He's honest, reliable, and good at solving problems."

Customers say: True professional

"Dave and Kevin helped out with a small window project that seemingly no other company would do except for at an incredibly high price. They transformed our kitchen's small solarium-like windows into a set of three standard single hung windows. This required demo, framing, roofing, and finishing touches. A project is never without a few hiccups, but both Dave and Kevin helped us understand the issues and asked for our input throughout. I also appreciated their willingness to reverse a decision we made a day prior. On-site storage of their tools/materials and cleanup were also a plus. They are a friendly group to work with, and we anticipate reaching out to them again for more projects."

"Great Service, I reached out for a dry rot siding that has non-standard planks. Matt customized the siding planks to match my existing siding and repaired the leak as well. He did the work so well that I further hired him to repair another poor job from the another big contractor company that repaired my wind storm damage from a few years ago. Highly recommended."

"Was the only contractor that called me back right away. Scheduled an appt on the phone. Got the project completed before the time frame he suggested. Very friendly. Showed many different jobs he has done. Those photos are amazing. Always a bit early every day to make sure the guys knew what they were doing for the day. Would totally use these guys again."

"The team of brothers came right on time, listened intently during the walk through for design and executed the fence build in a single day. Granted I had already sunk the posts in their locations, but the guys were fast, efficient and built a beautiful fence."

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can hang picture frames, shelves, and other items on Trusscore panels. For lightweight items (less than 30 pounds), the company recommends using adhesive strips rather than nails or screws. However, you’ll need to secure heavier objects to a stud in the wall. In these situations, Trusscore recommends cutting away the panel material and fastening the object to the stud with metal hardware.

Yes, ceiling joists are typically load-bearing. However, their primary function is to support the weight of the ceiling and loads applied to it, like lighting fixtures and ceiling fans. They can also help support the roof, especially if they’re part of truss systems. Remember, the load-bearing capacity of ceiling joists depends on the material, size, and space between them.

Removing a load-bearing wall affects the structural integrity of your home, so you’ll need a permit before starting the work. Building codes vary by municipality, and obtaining a permit and having the work inspected after completion will ensure you’re in compliance with all applicable regulations.

When deciding whether to use nails or screws for framing, the specific needs of the project must be taken into account. Nails have long been the go-to option for framing due to their affordability, ease of installation, and ability to withstand shear forces. They are perfect for structural framing projects where fast assembly is essential. In contrast, screws offer exceptional holding power and are particularly useful in situations requiring increased strength and resistance to pull-out forces. For projects that prioritize accuracy and long-lasting quality, screws may be the preferred option, though nails remain a dependable and efficient choice.

Balcony construction or replacement typically requires a building permit from your local permitting authority. Safety and building integrity are the main reasons for the need to obtain a permit and the subsequent inspections. In some cases, especially cantilevered balconies, your municipality may also require the oversight and signature of a structural engineer.
