"Lynn came out to take measurements.  She was knowledgeable, professional and did a fabulous job helping me pick colors.

Their installers were right on time, very skilled and took very little time to install the new blinds.  I would highly recommend this company and am, personally, still buying more blinds from them."

"Order arrived quickly - all in good condition. Have been using them for quite a while now. I love that the pieces lock together magnetically - so no sliding around. You can choose your colors: top and bottom. You do the measuring - they have instructions on how to do that - and it is very simple. Their order department was very accommodating when I called. Would definitely order from them."

"Sta-Built did a fantastic job on our projects. We interviewed 3 companies before we choose Sta-Built. All the companies bids were very similar in price, but the professionalism of Sta-Built was far beyond everyone we interviewed. Ryan came out and helped us design our projects. My husband and I wanted different designs and Ryan was able to show us what he thought would look best in the space we had to work with. So happy we went with Ryan's design. Both projects turned out fantastic. The crews that came out to do the work were very professional. Ben and Johnathan are meticulous and so is the rest of the crew. Our wall and walkway turned out great. I wish all contractors were this professional. Some before and after pics. Not in the right order. But you get the idea."

"Parker came out and did a fantastic job! I called for an appointment to replace an outdoor outlet and replace the head on a three prong cord and Parker came out the next morning. He arrived on time and was incredibly friendly and easy to work with. Even when there was a hiccup with the replacement Parker was able to quickly troubleshoot what was going on and get the job done. This company (and Parker specifically) will be my first call for any future electrical service needs. Highly recommended!"

"Few other electricians contacted even bothered to show up. Let alone go the extra mile! Absolutely ALL aspects of a challenging job, taking an old house from a tangle of wires and joints to a clean, functioning and reliable finished job, only positive attitudes throughout. And pricing was VERY competitive. Would recommend this Electrician to anyone."

Lighting questions, answered by experts

While wet-rated and damp-rated lighting is designed to handle contact with moisture, there’s a difference between the two. Wet-rated lighting is safety-rated to be placed in areas with direct exposure to water, including your shower. Fixtures classed as wet-rated are made with waterproof seals to protect the filament and other electrical components from water and moisture.

Damp-rated fixtures can be used in places with some moisture contact, but not direct exposure. They don’t have the same waterproof seals used in wet-rated fixtures. Damp-rated lighting can be used on your bathroom ceiling or along a wall outside of your shower.

The five common types of landscape lighting are up-lighting, down-lighting, spotlights, built-in lighting, and pathway lighting.

  • Up-lighting casts light upwards from the ground, mostly for aesthetic purposes.

  • Down-lighting directs light onto the ground, lighting pathways, or outdoor space.

  • Spotlights cast direct, focused lighting in any direction.

  • Built-in lighting integrates lighting into an outdoor feature.

  • Pathway lighting illuminates walkways, increasing safety.

Between seasons, inspect cords for damage, replace burnt-out bulbs, and clean lighting fixtures to prevent dirt buildup. Proper storage in cool, dry conditions will extend the lights' lifespan and minimize repairs or replacements when redeployed.

Yes, animals can trigger motion-sensor lights. In fact, this is a reason why some homeowners install motion-sensor lights, to catch sneaky little critters looking through the rubbish for a midnight snack. There are sensitivities to animal detection though, so you may want to look for an option that avoids animal detection as much as possible.

If your lights are shorting out during rain storms or other winter events, you should probably replace them. These shorts indicate electrical issues that could cause serious hazards. Look for outdoor-rated lights with connectors made for rainy conditions to replace them. But if your Christmas lights are new and you want further protection, you can find weatherproof covers to add to the male-end connectors of your Christmas light strings. These can minimize the risk of shorts.
