"Order arrived quickly - all in good condition. Have been using them for quite a while now. I love that the pieces lock together magnetically - so no sliding around. You can choose your colors: top and bottom. You do the measuring - they have instructions on how to do that - and it is very simple. Their order department was very accommodating when I called. Would definitely order from them."

"Sta-Built was the only company of the four contacted that followed through with a bid. They have great references. Ryan helped with the design. We did not think to include lighting and it was an excellent suggestion and decision. Hector and his crew showed up as scheduled and finished the job in two days. Hector assisted in making the right paver and color choices. We couldn't be happier with the end result. We will definitely hire again!"

"EXCELLENT customer service and really fast in terms of responsiveness. I will absolutely use these guys again when I have an electrical issue! The electrician, Parker, was fast, found the source of the issue, and fixed it, all with a smile on his face. Thank you guys SOOOO MUCH!"

"From the Scheduler, Angie, to the electrician that came out, Sergey, it was a totally great experience. We got an appointment in a reasonable time and Sergey was actually early getting here. He was pleasant, professional and extremely knowledgeable. He explained what he was doing and why, but always asked for consent to do anything extra and always explained the billing. No surprises! We had a new light fixture and two new light switches installed. (Some very important and helpful information about how the light switches needed to be compatible with the type of light bulbs you use… who knew! Well, probably everyone but me…). He even did a safety check of our circuit box. All in all, I would highly recommend Mr. Electric for your electrical needs!"

Small jobs welcome

"Absolutely an outstanding professional to work with. We've had lights, switches, breakers replaced, lines troubleshot and fixed, installed solar panel and lighting on a shed, installed entire outdoor accent lighting project on our home. Great communication, very knowledgeable and terrific followup. Highly recommended for any electrical projects."

"     In order to complete to layout design I submitted a drawing of the room as well as a series of photos.  The website for Homemade design has a questionaire what helps define your overall tastes in design.  I joined Pinterest and started boards for furniture, lighting, bookshelves which were reviewed.  Homemade design comes to New York periodically to meet with clients not in the Boston area and this gave us a chance to meet and select furniture and upholstery at the New York Design center.  This is an extra charge but well worth it since I was completely overwhelmed.  They were extremely patient and guided me through the process.  At one point I decided to move the television which turned out to be a bad idea -- they explained why it would not worked and I concurred competely after I understood the reasons.  So, they are not afraid to tell you if you going down the wrong road. I live in a New York City townhouse and forget that I do not have a whol lot of space even though my house is huge for NYC. So, I had to be told how to "scale" everything to the space we had to work with, which was helpful
I purchased the service several months ago but was not ready to actually decide on the actual purchases until recently. So, the delay in completion is because of my schedule.  I now hope to finish everything by September.

Lighting questions, answered by experts

Yes! As a matter of fact, there are many sensors that add motion to existing outdoor lights. These motion sensors attach to pre-existing flood lights and other outdoor lights without any fussy and potentially dangerous electrical work. Additionally, some flood lights and related fixtures ship with motion sensors built-in.

Installing outdoor lighting can increase your home’s value by up to $2,500. The average ROI on landscape lighting is around 50%, but how much your home increases depends on the market, the type of lighting, and whether you have a strong strategy for your landscaping lighting project. LED and solar lighting may offer the highest ROIs.

Yes, professional landscape lighting is typically worth the investment. Installing a lighting system can improve your home’s curb appeal, safety, and security, and it can also deter burglars. It adds value to your home by creating a brightly-lit outdoor space you can use after dark and making the property more appealing to potential buyers. According to the National Association of Realtors, landscape lighting can add up to $2,500 to your home’s value, and on average, this type of home improvement has a 50% return on investment.

Your maintenance needs revolve around the type of foundation you choose, as well as how you furnish or decorate it. Patios require little else other than the occasional hose-down, but decks and other wooden structures will require annual power washing and sealing. You may also need to restain the wood every two to three years.

Adding a solid roof rather than building a pergola or leaving the space open will make maintenance much easier. Without a roof, you will need to spend more time sweeping, washing, and covering your furniture to protect it from UV bleaching.

The five common types of landscape lighting are up-lighting, down-lighting, spotlights, built-in lighting, and pathway lighting.

  • Up-lighting casts light upwards from the ground, mostly for aesthetic purposes.

  • Down-lighting directs light onto the ground, lighting pathways, or outdoor space.

  • Spotlights cast direct, focused lighting in any direction.

  • Built-in lighting integrates lighting into an outdoor feature.

  • Pathway lighting illuminates walkways, increasing safety.
