"I used Triple V as the Project Engineer for a garage conversion to single family residence for my son’s family. Vic not only did the engineering for us, he also did the structural drawings we submitted to the county as part of our permit package. He delivered the plans promptly, and worked collaboratively with us to resolve issues we identified and revise the drawings accordingly. The county building department approved the plans and issued the permit. During the project construction Vic patiently responded to questions from us (we’re DIY’ers, not professional builders) and offered/provided certifications to revisions we jointly agreed to. Overall, Triple V provided what was promised at an outstanding value."

"I had the pleasure of working with Bryson on a recent project, and I couldn’t be more impressed with their work. From start to finish, Bryson demonstrated extensive knowledge and expertise in structural engineering. They took the time to understand the project’s unique needs and provided clear, practical solutions that ensured everything was both safe and efficient. One of the standout qualities was their excellent communication. They kept me informed at every stage, answering questions promptly and offering advice when needed. Even when challenges arose, Bryson approached them with professionalism and a problem-solving mindset, ensuring that the project stayed on track. The quality of the work was exceptional. Every detail was carefully considered, and I felt confident in the structural integrity of the design. The 10 10 rule describes the formula most contractors use to determine how much to charge for a job. Allowing for 10% overhead above the total projected cost to do the work and 10% profit sets a contractor up for success, even if there are delays or other problems on the project. This formula isn’t a hard-and-fast rule, but it is a ballpark figure to begin with when estimating your expenses on a job.

Structural engineers can perform various inspections on different structures in your home. These inspections usually include a report detailing the engineer’s findings and recommendations for repairs so you can determine your next course of action for repairs, replacements, or new builds. Some of the most common structural engineering reports include:

  • Full home inspection: $350–$1,000

  • Foundation: $300–$800

  • Load-bearing walls: $300–$1,000

  • Roof: $150–$600

  • Chimney: $200–$500

It depends on the bank and the extent of the issue. Some banks will lend against homes with minor foundation damage, but most won’t if the issue is structural since the home acts as collateral for the mortgage. Banks that offer renovation loans might still finance a home with structural problems. More minor issues like settling cracks and intermittent problems with humidity are unlikely to stop a bank from financing.

A freestanding brick wall that's only one brick thick can usually stand six to eight feet high. If you need a higher wall, it should be at least two bricks thick for adequate stability, and it might require a footing to support the added weight. Additionally, some areas have regulations and codes dictating how high a brick wall can be, so check with local code enforcers to ensure your proposed wall complies with any regulations.
