Steve and his assistants did okay on the basic infra-structure (connecting washer and dryer, framing a closet and a couple of soffits (corners weren't square), but very poorly on sheetrocking and trim. One bone of contention was that they went ahead and did things without bothering to consult us first; another problem was that they didn't always use the right materials for the work performed. (We've had to hire someone to redo the sheetrock, taping, and mudding--and at a large expense.) Many of the jobs they did were not really finished: no handles on cabinets, no opener on the pocket door, no trim on a closet door, and one door badly trimmed, but not fixed. They did, however, put up plastic trim around a kitchen window, even after I told them we'd settled on a hemlock trim that matched what we had. This behavior was neither accidental nor incidetnal but revealed a very poor attitude toward the job and contempt for the homeowner.

"This person was on the plan from the beginning to not pay her bill. We did a fine job at all the tasks and bottom line is we were signed off after the city inspection. This client was a little touched. She would go in and work on our work after we went home for the day and claim we did a sub standard job! I donnt know why I deserve these types as they damage a reputation unfairly and un necessarily."

Joists were sheetrocked over before I could see the work. Bare Deck plywood was not covered and rain storm soaked it before they came over to cover. Deck paint was wrong color. They charged me an additional $250.00 for 1/2 hour work to buy and add one coat of cover material. Basement flooring was applied where boards are not flat but buckled in places. Unprofessional staff lied to me and said, because I was contesting price, that my account had been sent to collections. She was particularly rude on the phone. It took 2 months for them to complete the work. They didn't show up for a week or two at a time when they said they would. THE PROBLEM OF POOLING WATER ON DECK AFTER RAIN OR SNOW STILL EXISTS.

"Client chose color and when she didnt like it on a larger platform of course she was charged for another color. This is a coating and not cheap. If it was our fault I wouldnt have had her pay for it, but she chose color. As far as covering joists before she saw them, It was never agreed that I would hault all construction until she had a chance to review the framing. Had she requested this, that would be a different story. My intention and for cost purposes is to get jobs done for folks and she was at work and knew we were working on her deck. She could have requested vs saving her angst for a review like this. We did a great job on her deck, on her flooring , and everything we did. She was looking to not pay her balance as finances for her seemed to be a big deal. That was poor planning. Shouldnt call for multiplpe services when your not able to pay."

The contractor ordered 40% too much roofing material. I had to pay full price for material when it was ordered. When the roof was complete and it was clear how much excess there was, I asked the contractor for an adjustment. They refused, claiming that because I approved the material order, I was responsible for the mistake.
There were many other billing and scheduling problems along the way as well.

"SHS attempted to our best ability to accmmodate & help Mr. [Member Name Removed] in every way. When we were asked to do the project, other contractors has looked at it & because it was a custom metal roof, no one wanted to do it. We took the project on. We had a signed, detailed, contract that was signed and agreed to with the customer. Mr. [Member Name Removed] had an incomplete set up plans that he sent us to go off of that we sent to the roofing supply company. We didn't order or approve of any materials until we got the list back from the supply company & got approval from Mr. [Member Name Removed]. Then, we wrote the contract up for labor & materials as agreed upon. Mr. [Member Name Removed] signed the contract. SHS went above & beyond to fulfill & complete this project. We did & Mr. [Member Name Removed] was happy with the work. When Mr. [Member Name Removed] realized the left over material, that is when he got upset & turned on SHS. The material couldn't be returned since it's custom metal roofing material, that we very clear from the beginning. Our tech that was assigned to Mr. Gaumers job, who Mr. [Member Name Removed] liked & asked for, Mom died in the process & he took some time to grieve, Mr. [Member Name Removed] knew this & was understanding. SHS even offered to try & find a buyer to buy the metal roofing from Mr. [Member Name Removed], to help him out. It is too bad that Mr. [Member Name Removed] is not blaming SHS for his material excess that was clearly listed in the contract he signed. We did everything we were contracted to do & in the time we were contracted to do it."
