"After several years the tiles around our gas fireplace had become loose and the grout was crumbling. Five Tiles came to take a look the day after I called, and were able to safely remove the loose tiles and determine and repair the problem with the backing. They gave us a very reasonable price and were able to complete the job quickly. The grout looks amazing! I recommend the high quality work that Five Tiles did for our home!"

"Tim Bordak of Wayerside Builders. Tim did a magnificent job of removing our old tiles and keeping the house void of any dust, debris etc. He is cordial, polite and beyond professional. Every contractor in the field can learn tons from Tim. His work is impeccable. Tim takes pride in his work and the completed work he does shows it. We highly recommend Tim for any tile or stone work that you may need. Thank you Tim. Bob and Sandi"

"Original project was to find a leak in bathroom shower that slowly propagated into bedroom closet over time. Tony found and repaired the leak as well as installed laminate flooring in the bathroom. Also had him paint exterior of house and trim with a shed. Very good work. Professional, friendly and courteous. Given the opportunity, I would hire him again."

"Matt and Dominique of Inland Empire Construction, were professional, capable, caring and went above and beyond remodeling my entire bathroom. They listened, communicated, problem solved, made suggestions and provided exceptional service. Since it was the only bathroom, Matt reinstalled the toilet each day. The new bathroom is remarkably!"

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

Tile costs vary by material; for example, ceramic tends to be more affordable than stone. These influence installation timelines and skill requirements.

For professional labor and materials, it would cost between $6,000 and $28,000 to install 1,000 square feet of Saltillo tile flooring. If that’s out of your budget, you could consider laying the tiles yourself or choosing a less expensive type of flooring. For example, vinyl flooring costs just $2 to $7 per square foot, so for a 1,000-square-foot space, you’d pay $2,000 to $7,000.

Yes, tiling a bathroom is a great way to boost your home's value, especially if you are replacing old or dated flooring. Adding a new tile floor can deliver a return on investment (ROI) of around 56.4%, with some projects offering up to 100% ROI. Buyers appreciate new tile because it provides a modern look and is known for being durable, water-resistant, low-maintenance, and easy to clean. For the best results and highest return, consider hiring a professional, as tiling mistakes can be very noticeable and detract from the value.

You can technically install tile over tile, but we don’t suggest it. Installing tile over any surface that isn’t a completely flat and prepared subfloor will result in a shoddy overall job, uneven flooring, tiles that don’t adhere, extra weight, gaps, cracks, and room for moisture and dirt to enter. For the best results, only install new tile on a flat, sanded surface like subflooring or concrete that is prepared for tile.

If you have asbestos tile and would rather tile over it than remove it, or if your existing tile is completely flat and bonded tightly to the floor, you may be able to tile over existing tile. But experts recommend thinking twice before you do.

Ceramic tile can be slightly less expensive than porcelain pavers. You can find outdoor ceramic tile for as little as $1 per square foot, but high-end options tend to cost the same as porcelain.
