"All personnel involved were great at their job. From the estimate through the completion, everyone was professional and thorough. What began as removing a concrete drive to allow a plumber access to the sewer main line, became their completing the entire project. This occurred due to the depth of the line. They completed the job quickly, with minimal inconvenience. While they were here, I couldn't have asked for a better experience for a significantly difficult repair."

"Great company to work with. He was professional, reliable, and communicated well throughout the project. The work was finished on time, and the quality was better than I expected. I’d definitely recommend him to anyone needing excavation or landscaping work, and I would happily use him again in the future."

"Keone came out the other day to give us a free estimate. He was late but explained the unavoidable circumstances. He was professional and listened to my concerns about the stump to be removed. His original plan was to grind the stump, but that was not able to be done due to the underground utilities being right underneath the stump. He came up with a second plan and quickly removed the stump, filled the hole with dirt, and cleaned up the area. Now you can hardly tell that a stump was there in the first place, and the slight mound may settle as the dirt gets further compressed."

"Pinpoint re-graded and re-graveled my driveway, using a laser to accurately slope the drive, so water would drain away from the house. Re-grading involved excavation of the old gravel (to lower the drive), removal of some large rocks which were encountered, and hauling away of all the excavated material. New gravel was then spread and compacted. I am completely happy with the work and Pinpoint. Pinpoint was professional, with good equipment, arrived on time, did what they said they would do, completed the work promptly, didn't leave a mess, and provided a great looking job. I would definitely hire Pinpoint again."

Excavating questions, answered by experts

If you don’t wish to dig it out and convert it into a finished basement, you can still encapsulate your crawl space to protect it from damage for an average cost of $5,500. Finishing a crawl space beyond this isn’t really worthwhile, as the low ceilings mean you won’t be able to use the area as living space.

Yes, chipmunk holes may have two or more entrances. Chipmunks can create an entire network of burrows. Having multiple entrances makes it easier for them when trying to escape from a predator, such as a snake, or if an entrance collapses due to flooding. Each entrance leads to the nesting chamber underground, which is where the chipmunk spends the majority of its time sleeping.

We recommend removing the stump, and grinding is a popular way to do it. You can also dig out small stumps or stumps that have fully decayed instead of grinding them. However, don’t try using acids or fire for killing a tree stump, which is a fire hazard and illegal in many areas.

Leaving the stump alone invites eventual problems, including attracting termites, mold, and fungi.

Excavation and grading are both generally necessary for designing your foundation, and leveling the ground where your foundation will go. These steps can also prepare the area by removing vegetation and anything else that could interfere with your home’s foundation.

Call 811 to locate and mark the gas lines at least three days before digging. In many areas, you can dig within 18 inches of the lines, though in some locations, the distance may be further. Check local regulations, as you may need a utility company representative onsite when digging. Document your calls to 811 and precautions taken to avoid gas lines. A homeowner can be held liable for hitting a gas line in some cases, but contacting the proper authorities and following all guidelines can offer protection.
