"Carlos and his team were timely, professional and responsive to our needs or challenges. The putting green project was completed on time (the team even worked through the weekend) and the estimated cost was the actual cost - no hidden add-ons. I would highly recommend Carlos and his team to do any landscaping or excavation."

"A-Plus did a fantastic job in demolishing the concrete around my pool, breaking up the pool, placing the concrete chunks in the pool, and filling and compacting the fill dirt. Suzanne provided timely and clear communication throughout the project and left my back yard in perfect condition. I would absolutely hire A Plus again to do work for me."

"Norberto and his crew are very professional and knowledgeable about their work. They removed a huge damaged tree for us, to the point of allowing the 6 ft trunk remaining to hopefully revive and regrow in the spring. Well done, and very challenging work. They also installed an intricate and elaborate drainage for a new lawn to replace an existing drainage system put in by another contract which only resulted in a dead lawn that had been overcome with an even worse water problem. Mount Olive turned a muddy mess into a perfectly draining area! We are happy to recommend them for your landscape needs and are very pleased with their work. They are good listeners and clearly strive for happy customers."

"We had such a great experience with Harry and his team. We had them replace several retaining walls (some failing, some just for aesthetic reason) and they were so helpful from the beginning to the end. Harry guided me through the (long) permitting process with the city and his team was able to start not too long after we finally got the permit. Communication was great and Harry and his team gave great advice on the best plan for our yard. We are thrilled with the result and would hire them again in a heartbeat."

"I hired ACS to complete a closet remodel which entailed cutting into the wall to open up the closet, and adding new sliding doors. Gary was easy to schedule with for both the initial meeting and getting the work done. His crew was done in 1 day with the project and it looks fantastic. He was able to find some very pretty fir doors that make the room look even better. I would highly recommend using ACS."

Excavating questions, answered by experts

Skunk digging looks like a series of small, cone-shaped holes on a lawn or around the perimeter of a home, porch, deck, or shed. The holes that skunks dig when searching for grubs tend to be no more than four inches in diameter and may be up to four inches deep.

Sewer lines can be buried anywhere from 18 inches to 8 feet deep, with a common average depth between 18 and 30 inches. The exact depth depends on local factors like climate and soil type. In colder regions, pipes must be buried deeper (below the frost line) to prevent freezing, sometimes as deep as 8 feet. The digging depth can also impact the cost of sewer line replacement. To find the specific depth for your property, you can check the building plans for your system, which should be on file with your city or local sanitation department since permits are required for installation.

Drilled wells have a pipe sticking up that’s covered in a plastic or metal casing. On the other hand, a dug well will look like a big hole in the ground and is more similar to what you’d see in a fantasy or Western movie. If you want to be sure, contact the city for documentation on your property’s construction and excavation history.

Most states do not require excavation companies to hold specific licenses, but many require at least a contractor’s license. Additionally, heavy equipment operators require a special commercial equipment license to operate machinery required for excavation. You can use Angi’s contractor licensing tool to confirm that an excavation company you’re considering hiring is fully licensed. You should also make sure that the excavation team is fully insured before allowing them to work on your property.

Trenches are typically 12 to 24 inches deep and 8 inches wide. However, the required depth depends on the specific project and local ordinances. For example, a French drain may need to be 18 inches deep, while a water pipe might require a depth of 24 inches and a drainage pipe 36 inches. Your city or county may have specific regulations, so it's wise to consult with an excavation professional to determine the correct depth for your project.
