"I highly recommend Olympic Painting. They painted the entire inside of our house plus kitchen cabinets (island and drawers/doors). They were timely, highly responsive and communicative, and the price was exactly what they quoted. Their craftmanship was first-rate, and their two painters were both extremely detailed and friendly. You will be extremely happy with their work!"

"Steve has gained a lifetime customer. I had 2 bedrooms , 13 door trims and floor trim all through the house painted. He is very meticulous, courteous and helpful. He is willing to take that extra step if necessary to make sure the work is done properly. He always keeps you updated throughout the process. I also had the railing on our outside deck, the fascia boards, window trim and front door painted. I had shared a color with Steve that I wanted the trim and fascia boards painted in and he said "Can I be honest your selection is just ok, because you want contrast and this color doesn't pop. It is your house but I think you can find something that would look better". I took his advice to heart and he was right I chose a beautiful red and we are so so happy with it. Once I have pictures I will add them. I had discussed with him at one point of possible painting our dark cabinets in the kitchen white and he told me he would not do it because they are nice. He said yes he could make good money doing the job, but no it would be a waste of my money, that is honesty!. Thank you Steve for your professionalism I know it is important to you and you work reflects that."

"Northwest Builders and Renovations, I had a good experience with this company. They worked with me on a constant changing plan until it was exactly what I wanted. Once the plan was finalized the work started. Demolition of 85% of old deck and supports on a older bi level wood deck, removed a jacuzzi, Re-framed for one level, 12’x34’ Trex flooring picture framed in three sections, a roof that covers the entire deck and a white vinyl handrail with a double gate. Looks absolutely beautiful. Far as materials go nothing but the best. Build to last, very strong. This was a big project for me, never have worked with contractors before, I didn’t know exactly what to expect. Let me tell you that they delivered on what was promised. I’m very happy that I decided to go with Northwest Builders and Renovation. Looking forward on doing future projects with them. Great job I just wish I could add pictures to show the beautiful work"

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

When choosing between deck stain or paint, knowing what will last longer is important. Deck paint lasts longer than deck stain. With deck paint, you can get up to 10 years of coverage before you need to reapply. With deck stain, that time is significantly shorter at two to three years

Yes, they provide design insights that enhance space utility and visual appeal.

Staining or sealing a cedar deck or fence is highly recommended to extend its lifespan and protect it from the elements. While cedar is naturally resistant to mold and mildew, it is not impervious to damage from moisture, sun exposure, splintering, fading, and rot over time. Applying a protective finish creates a shield that preserves the wood's strength and appearance, potentially extending its life by five to 10 years.

When choosing a finish, it's helpful to understand the difference between a sealer and a stain. A sealer sits on top of the wood, whereas a combination stain and sealer soaks into the top layer. Because it penetrates the wood, a stain generally offers better protection against UV damage and rot and lasts significantly longer. For the best results that also preserve the wood's natural color, consider using a near-translucent stain.

To maintain protection, plan on reapplying the stain or sealer every two to three years, either as a DIY project or by hiring a professional.

Yes, beginners can use a paint sprayer, but there is a learning curve. It's important to go slowly, read the instructions thoroughly, and spend some time learning the technique. Watching tutorial videos for your specific paint sprayer model can be very helpful. Before starting your main project, practice on a scrap surface to get used to the sprayer and avoid common issues like overspraying, which can cause drips, bubbles, and other imperfections. For safety, always wear a mask and gloves, and be careful not to touch the sprayer's tip when it's in use, particularly with high-powered airless sprayers.

No, it is not okay to paint over rotted wood. Painting over rotted wood will not address the underlying issue and can trap moisture, leading to further decay. Properly addressing the rotted wood by removing and replacing or repairing the damaged areas is necessary before you can even consider painting.
