"We hired Roads Paving to replace our aging, 1200 square foot asphalt driveway. Their bid was lower than a competitor. The driveway is tightly compacted, smooth, and looks great. The work only took around 4 hours from start to finish, including removing the existing asphalt and sub-base. Norm, his crew, and office staff were extremely courteous and helpful throughout the entire process."

"I highly recommend Jesse at JP Asphalt. He recently completed seal coating and patching on my very long driveway, and the results exceeded my expectations. The service was excellent from start to finish, the price was fair, and the quality of the work was outstanding. The driveway honestly looks brand new. "It was A+++ service from quote to finish. We had stairs and walkways and patio paved. Michael was most helpful in helping us choose excellent design choices and Danny, Alain and Martin ( the crew) were wonderful. Martin is a master craftsman with unusual attention to detail and design. The project started and finished in expected time. We were consulted every step to ensure we were happy. I strongly recommend lifestyle pavers. Fair price, wonderful people and excellent workmanship."

"Highly recommend NGL Pavingstone. Holly provided a detailed bid so no surprises with cost. She brought samples of materials to the house and kept in contact throughout the entire installation. Manual and his crew did a fantastic job, they showed up on time everyday, worked efficiently, and were easy to communicate with. They completed installation of approximately 90ft long (in three sections) x 4ft at highest point retaining wall, 10 ft pathway and steps in a week. They did a beautiful job dealing with elevation changes in the yard."

Paving Services questions, answered by experts

Wet cutting is usually the preferred method. It controls dust, which helps protect your lungs and makes for a cleaner working environment. Plus, the water cools the blade, preventing overheating and prolonging its life while providing smoother, more precise cuts. The downside is the mess—water and asphalt sludge can be messy to clean. Dry cutting, though convenient if water isn’t available, creates a lot of dust, which can be harmful. This also increases the risk of blade damage due to overheating. So, if you have the option, wet cutting is the better method for most asphalt jobs.

While water-related pressure caused by poor drainage is one common cause of paver cracking, other factors can include ground movement beneath pavers, heavy loads and wear and tear over the pavers, and climates with constant freeze-thaw cycles. In general, pavers should be resealed every three to five years to prevent cracking.

The best ways to increase the lifespan of your driveway are to carry out proper maintenance and get repairs done quickly. First, reseal your driveway every one to three years to protect it from the elements. If you start to notice significant cracks, hire a professional to diagnose the problem before it gets more serious. You can also use sand instead of salt when de-icing your driveway (since salt is corrosive) and clean your driveway annually using a pressure washer to keep it in tip-top shape.

One advantage of selecting a resin bound driveway over concrete or asphalt is that homeowners have a variety of colors to choose from. Manufacturers customize aggregate materials, so customers can choose browns, golds, greens, blues, reds, and blacks. Some manufacturers also offer metallic shades.

The recommended minimum amount for a paver base is 4 inches. From there, it depends on the kind of traffic the pavers will see and the current soil conditions. Two inches of paver base won’t create the amount of stability and support that pavers need to remain securely in place over time.
