"Outstanding Experience with Roads Paving! We recently had Roads Paving install a new asphalt driveway, and we couldn’t be happier with the results. The crew was professional, friendly, and extremely detail-oriented from start to finish. Their equipment was modern and well-maintained, which showed in the smooth and high-quality finish of the driveway. The team took the time to explain each step of the process and made sure everything was completed to perfection. It’s clear they take pride in their work. Highly recommend Roads Paving to anyone looking for quality workmanship and great service!"

"Outstanding company. Not cheap but they are totally worth it. They did beautiful winding path in our front yard 4/2019 and just completed a 70 foot long path and stairs in our back yard. Manuel was the lead guy and Holly was the sales lady. Their customer service is the best that I've encountered. They are very keen on pleasing the customer. Manuel obviously takes a lot of pride in his work. Once they start working they come every day M-F and work hard for about 8 hours. No annoying long pauses while they start another project. "Stone and gravel patio well constructed including retaining wall. Paver patio well constructed. Per customer request after contractor declared job finished, pavers joints were sealed with polymeric sand. Also customer had to request finishing transitions between retaining wall and pavers. In summary, contractor is excellent in construction techniques but needed some prompting to make clean, finishing touches. Good communication with customer. Completed job and is responsive to customer requests. Customer is very satisfied with end result."

"Lifestyle Pavers rocks! They tore out our 35 year old cedar deck and stairs and installed our beautiful new paver patio nearly 3 years ago. Martin and his crew are some of the hardest working people I've ever met, and they do very high quality work, too! Now almost three years later, we had a little settlment in one paver near edge, near the remains of a huge stump that was under the property line and fence so it could not be entirely removed when we built the patio. I contacted Michael and he came over with Martin and Martin quickly determend the cause. We could see where the sand and water were going. Martin went about adding sand and tamping and putting concrete into the hole in vastly improving support for the pavers which he then reinstalled. The patio is once again, perfect! I find this level of service and support, under warranty and at a moments notice to be absolutely amazing in this day and age. Go with Michael and Lifestyle pavers, you'll be happy you did! We are!"

Paving Services questions, answered by experts

Think of the street as a way to capture all the elements on either side of the road, including the road—a street encompasses the homes or other buildings, the trees, and the road of a given area as defined by the beginning and end of the street on a map. A roadway, however, is the component of the street where cars travel.

While paving a driveway is possible to do as a DIY project, we don’t recommend it. Hiring a driveway professional to pave it will ensure that your driveway looks neat and clean and lasts for years to come, and it will also prevent a weak driveway and, potentially, damage to your foundation. Paving a driveway requires heavy machinery, and while you can rent the equipment needed, operating it close to your garage slab or around your home’s foundation can crack it and lead to structural issues.

Paving is a part of hardscaping, so all paving is hardscaping, but not all hardscaping is paving. Paving involves laying down concrete or asphalt, while hardscaping can also include the use of paving stones, bricks, gravel, wood, and more. Hardscape features that involve paving are considered permanent and will increase your property taxes, while some other hardscaping features—like those involving bricks, gravel, and paving stones—will not affect property taxes. Paving also typically requires a permit, while hardscaping features considered temporary will not.

Maintaining a driveway depends on its material. For concrete and asphalt, it's best to clean the surface thoroughly twice a year with a stiff broom and a pressure washer to remove accumulated dirt and debris. Sealing the driveway is crucial to protect it from water damage and freeze-thaw cycles. Before applying a sealant, pressure wash the surface to remove any loose sealant, dirt, or stains, as sealing over them will trap them. Any cracks or expansion joints should be filled with a flexible polyurethane caulk or asphalt sealer. In colder climates, use sand instead of salt for de-icing. Sand helps melt snow and ice without accelerating the freeze-thaw process, which can cause cracks.

Your city or county will have guidelines about the minimum and maximum width and length of private roads. The average private road is 12 feet wide, and length, of course, depends on your property. Requirements also depend on the amount of traffic and types of vehicles your road experiences. Check with local ordinances before planning a road on your property.
