"Nu-Life carefully explained the process of obtaining an independent mold assessment, the remediation process, and the final inspection. They used a soda-blasting process that completely removed the mold and then coated the surfaces with anti-microbial paint. In our house, it was necessary to remove part of the ceiling in one bedroom to get at all of the mold. NU-Life took care of the entire job, including removing and restoring part of the ceiling and even re-painting the ceiling. There was absolutely no mess left behind and our house was cleared by the mold assessor after the re-inspection. We were extremely pleased with the job and would use NU-Life again and recommend them to others.

"I was very pleased with Carol's prompt service and follow-up. There were a couple of items that I thought should have been included and disclosed in the final report that required a separate discussion and explanation."

"I called to ask about getting a concrete foundation inspected as part of an inspection contingency in a house purchase. They couldn't get to my state in time but the guy on the phone was so helpful and listened to my problem and gave me some advice on how to approach it. He was very knowledgeable and very willing to share his knowledge to help me out."

"Tech that arrived was lousy. Came out of truck complaining about a back ache, blamed my AC issues on old windows. Never looked in the attic. Ended up hiring a company out of pocket who did a thorough inspection and made sensible recommendations."

Home Inspection questions, answered by experts

You can start inspecting your roof from the ground by looking for unevenness in the roof lines and slopes. Keep an eye out for broken, damaged, or missing shingles, and look for visible gaps where the roofing material meets exterior walls or roof penetrations, like your chimney. If you’re comfortable getting up on your roof and using the necessary safety equipment, you can get a closer look at these areas to identify signs of damage. If you notice any potential issues, it’s best to call in a professional to confirm your findings.

A sagging, cracked, or uneven foundation, worn or outdated electrical systems, poor plumbing, and slow sewer lines are all common deal breakers that stem from home inspections. Musty odors, uneven floors, and sticky doors and windows may also be deal breakers that will tell you when to to walk away from a home inspection.

One of the best ways to know your chimney is good to go on any given night is to simply look up into your flue with a flashlight. If you see a thick buildup of creosote—a shiny, dark substance that looks like tar—it’s best to have your fireplace professionally cleaned before you go ahead with the burn. Additionally, having your fireplace professionally inspected once per year can also help increase your peace of mind and keep your family and your home safe.

Homeowners insurance may cover shower pan leaks, but it depends on the type of coverage you’re looking for. Typically, home insurance policies cover sudden or accidental water damage, for example, if it comes from a busted pipe or malfunctioning appliance. Damage to a shower pan is usually gradual. A repair or replacement of your shower pan usually won’t be covered by your policy. If your shower pan leak causes water damage, chances are your standard policy—if it includes water damage—will cover the repair.

If you hire a dedicated asbestos inspector near you in addition to your local home inspector, it will cost between $200 and $800. If, however, your general home inspector happens to be certified as an asbestos inspector, they can charge you a smaller fee and tack on the cost to the home inspection. In general, home inspectors do not do physical testing, but will provide a visual assessment so you know what you are working with.
