Motion-sensor lights use one watt while on standby and five watts while turned on. They’re usually on for one hour over a 24-hour period, bringing the total wattage to about 28 watts per day. LED lights use around 6.5 to 8 watts while on. If you leave an LED light on all night, with night ranging from 10 to 14 hours, you’re looking at using 65 to 112 watts a night. You can minimally cut your wattage in half by switching to a motion-sensor light.

It’s possible to remove a new construction recessed light without getting into your attic, though it’s a bigger job. You’ll need to identify the joist locations using a stud finder, then cut a square hole in the drywall of your ceiling to remove the fasteners holding the fixture. After removing the light, you’ll have to patch and paint the ceiling again.

There are four main types of lighting used in homes: ambient, task, accent, and decorative. Within these categories, there are a number of fixtures to choose from including ceiling-mounted lights, floor lamps, under-cabinet lights, track lighting, and more.

To achieve the optimal lighting output from your under-cabinet lights, position the LED tape towards the front of the cabinet with the LEDs facing downward. For effective illumination of the work surface and backsplash, place the tape light approximately one to two inches behind the cabinet's front edge. This mounting configuration is especially suitable for dull or matte surfaces.
