"Gregsher Plumbing, and specifically Greg, provided exceptional service when I needed help with a plumbing issue at my home. I was impressed with how quickly and efficiently Greg fixed the problem. He arrived on time and wasted no time in assessing and resolving the issue. One of the standout qualities was Greg's ability to access a tight crawl space to complete the job. Despite the difficult and cramped conditions, Greg navigated through it with ease, showcasing his expertise and problem-solving skills. I also appreciated Greg's attention to cleanliness. After completing the repairs, he made sure to clean up the work area, leaving it in a better condition than he found it. Overall, I highly recommend Gregsher Plumbing for any plumbing needs. Greg's promptness, ability to access tight spaces, and commitment to cleanliness make him an outstanding plumber."

Sean was extremely professional from start to finish—he clearly explained what the issue was, how he was going to fix it, and answered all my questions along the way. "They came in the first day and demoed the pipes and tub. This mess stayed in the front yard for four days. I was teased that my house looked like Sanford and Son. The work progressed from there. The yard did get cleaned but the bathroom was not

"The service technician cleaned my coils (they were gross!) and gave me great information on how to care for the unit in the future. He did a full inspection of my complete system, inside and out, and then provided me with options for the future to properly care of my unit. He was knowledgeable, polite, helpful, and professional.
Additionally, he explained to me their service plan (which I purchased) and all of the future options/services I could utilize to properly care for, and extend the life of, my heating/cooling system. I was provided a full written summary of everything we discussed, along with the price estimates of all options.
It started to pour rain while the technician was outside inspecting my unit and so he returned to my home and finished up inside (paperwork, explanations, etc.). By the time he was ready to leave the rain had stopped and he went back outside, prior to leaving the premises to finish his outside inspection/service. I had a previously scheduled appointment and as I drove away he was outside continuing to do his job. I was impressed!

Sewer Cleaning questions, answered by experts

The cost to unclog a drain varies based on the location and severity of the clog. For simple clogs within your home, such as in a sink, toilet, or shower, hiring a plumber typically costs between $110 and $350, with an average of around $200. Snaking a toilet or sink usually costs between $110 and $275, while a bathtub or shower clog costs about $225.

For a more serious clog in the main sewer line, the cost is higher. Clearing a main line clog generally costs between $200 and $600, with an average of about $380. However, prices can range from as low as $100 for snaking a minor clog to over $1,600, particularly if advanced methods like video inspection and hydrojetting are needed for a large or hard-to-reach blockage. Some severe main line clogs can cost upwards of $1,000 to clear depending on factors like the cause of the clog, its distance from an accessible cleanout, and whether the pipe is located beneath an occupied space (e.g., in an apartment building). You may be able to save money on minor clogs by using a drain snake or bladder yourself.

Snaking a drain can take as little as a few minutes for small, simple clogs, up to two hours or more for tough clogs located further down the drain line. For tougher clogs, a professional drain cleaner can likely get the job done much more quickly because they have the necessary tools and expertise. However, your drain cleaning pro might not be able to give you a firm time estimate until inspecting the clog and its surrounding plumbing.

Your sewer line can get grimy quickly. To prevent sludge buildup in your sewer line, pour a mixture of 1/3 cup of vinegar and 1/3 cup of baking soda down each drain in your home once a month. After about 30 minutes, flush the drain with hot water.

Some plumbers recommend 3/4 cup of bleach instead to clean any germs and bacteria that may build up in your sewer line. But this won’t break down any active clogs, and it cannot be combined with vinegar, as the mixture will create a toxic, hazardous gas.

If you’re not using a septic system, problems with your home’s plumbing won’t cause this—it’s a city problem. A large blockage in the municipal sewage lines may cause those lines to back up into your home. This is extremely unpleasant and can be a serious health risk due to bacteria and other contaminants. If this occurs, call a pro (or your city) immediately.

It is generally safe to stay in a house that smells like sewage for a short time, but you should get the problem fixed as soon as possible. While the level of sewer gas is usually low enough to only cause minor symptoms, prolonged inhalation can lead to headaches, nausea, or respiratory irritation. High levels of gas exposure can be more dangerous, and high concentrations of methane—a component of sewer gas—can pose an explosion risk in enclosed spaces. If you smell sewer gas in your home, ventilate the area and call a professional to locate, assess, and fix the problem, as it will not go away on its own.
