"From our initial meeting with the sales rep Richard, very knowledgable and professional, to the final walk around with project manager Brian  all went smoothly and we are very pleased. The roof installation took about 3 days due to weather delays, however, Sara the office manager contacted me each day to give me an update on the weather and when the crew would be returning to complete the work. She  and Brian also went above and beyond helping us to select the perfect color shingles by sending me extra samples and showing pictures of houses that had similar siding and shingles. Rico's crew worked efficiently and took great pride in doing their best work. They cleaned up after each day and also covered my floors with plastic to catch any debris that might fall when they replaced the skylights. I would highly recommend Roofing and More, Inc. for their professionalism, attention to detail and excellent customer service!

"The roof replacement is fine - nothing amazing, nothing upsetting. My communication with their office throughout the process has been frustrating and unprofessional."

"I hired Skyfall Exteriors LLC. I worked with Richmond Sales Manager Chris Owens. They did a free full roof inspection during which he identified storm damage. He assisted me with filing a claim with my insurance company and he also met the insurance adjuster at my house during their inspection. With his help, my claim was approved (saving me $15,000). Skyfall installed a new Owens Corning duration lifetime warranty roofing system. All i had to pay was my deductible. I highly recommend using Skyfall Exteriors LLC for all your roofing and storm damage needs. Charles Owens is amazing and very professional. Thank you"

"Crew did a remarkable job they were timely in their arrival, courteous, and diligently worked until completion. They left the worksite clean and ensured they took away all work debris. We wereI very pleased with the project from start to finish. Several members of Long Roofing came by the site to ensure we were happy with the installation and were available to answer any questions. Highly recommend this company for your roofing needs. Will consider in the future for other areas they support such as windows."

Roofing questions, answered by experts

Removing snow from your roof can help prevent ice dams, but the best thing to do is address insulation issues in your attic. If you do decide to remove the snow manually, you should always use a roof rake rather than a shovel. You shouldn’t climb your snowy roof in any circumstance, and roof rake allows you to remove the snow from the ground or a ladder. For the best results, remove snow as soon as possible after it falls.

Whether or not the terms of your roofing estimate are negotiable depends on the contractor. Some professional roofers will be willing to budge on labor fees to some extent, while others will simply walk away from the potential work rather than lower their fees. In most cases, it’s best not to negotiate the terms, as lower labor charges could lead to your contractor cutting corners. Material costs aren’t negotiable, but you could purchase them yourself to try to save on delivery fees and markups.

Yes, in many cases, homeowners insurance does cover roof damage caused by snow. For instance, if your roof collapses during a snowstorm or an ice dam results in a ceiling leak, your policy should cover repair costs. However, for a claim to be approved, the roof must have been well-maintained and in good condition before the snow-related damage occurred. The payout, whether full or partial, can also vary depending on the age of your roof and its overall condition prior to the snowfall. It is always best to review your specific homeowners insurance policy to understand the details of your coverage and any potential exclusions.

Walking on an asbestos roof can pose a risk. Asbestos roofing materials can become brittle over time, increasing the chances of them breaking or releasing fibers when stepped on. Additionally, walking on an asbestos roof without proper precautions can cause further damage to the material. If possible, avoid touching an asbestos roof in any way and consult with a professional about removing and replacing the roof.

A roof's ability to handle snow depends on its strength and the snow's weight, as wet snow is much heavier than dry, fluffy snow. While designs in snowy regions often allow for 35 to 50 pounds per square foot, a general guideline is that a typical roof can withstand about four feet of fresh snow, two feet of packed snow, or just one inch of ice. Factors like the roof's age, slope, and support structure also affect its capacity; newer, sloped roofs generally hold more weight than older, flat ones. Ice and ice dams add significant, dangerous weight. Because capacity varies, it is best to contact a professional roofing contractor or the original builder to determine the maximum snow load for your specific home.
