She had her own cleaning business and it just passed down along to me. The easiest way to remove vinyl siding is with a zip tool, which can be purchased at a local hardware store for less than $10. This tool works by slipping underneath a panel to disconnect two pieces of vinyl siding from one another. Once the tool is hooked underneath, slide the tool across the vinyl panel and pry upward.

It’s possible to match new vinyl to your old siding, but it can be difficult. First, vinyl siding fades in the sunlight, so even after a few years, it may have a markedly different appearance than its original color. Second, the composition and manufacturing techniques of vinyl siding are always being updated, which means older vinyl siding is discontinued quite frequently. That increases the chances you won’t be able to match the exact color and design of your previous siding.

If you’re trying to cover up damaged vinyl siding with some other material, properly repairing the damage is likely just as easy. Avoid covering up damaged siding under most circumstances. Water and mold can easily get trapped behind it and cause more harm than the damage already there. 

If you need a fast, temporary repair until you have time to fix the damage properly, use a generous amount of caulk or spray foam insulation to fill the gap, knowing that you’ll need to remove the material later. 

Not only is vinyl siding recyclable, but it’s also reusable. If your siding is in good condition after removal, you can save money on new siding and have it reapplied. It’s recommended that you clean vinyl siding once a year, but you should give it an extra wash in between uses. If your siding is damaged, small holes and cracks can be fixed with a caulk gun. For extensive damages, it’s better to drop off your vinyl siding at your local recycling center.

Although it isn’t recommended to use more than 1,500 pounds of force per square inch (or PSI) on delicate siding materials like wood and metal, it’s safe to use more than that on surfaces made of stone, cement, and, yes, vinyl. In most cases, you can use up to 3,500 PSI without any problems, though you’ll want to make sure to use a tip with a spray span that better disperses this pressure, like a green or yellow tip.
