"They did a great job. They solved all the problems I had with the chimney and it’s been working perfectly ever since. They also fixed a problem on the roof around the chimney; they replaced the wood around the chimney with a material that would never rot, so they fixed it even better than it was before. It took them a couple of days to do the work. They took care of all the cleanup as well. We've been real happy with them."

Hello,\n\nWe are Ana & Matt, the husband and wife team behind Total Home Design & Remodeling. We know it is not easy to decide who you’ll entrust with your design project, and we are thankful that you’re considering us. \n\nCreating beautiful, functional interiors is our passion. We’re fortunate to be able to do it for a living. It is often hard work. But, the load is lightened by the team of craftsmen and vendors that we’ve assembled over the years. They share our passion, and our goals of premium quality and absolute satisfaction. It is because of them that we are able to deliver consistently amazing results. \n\nOur company has offered remodeling services to homeowners in Northern Virginia since 1999, and design and décor services since 2014. Over that time we’ve often been awarded and recognized for our great work and excellent customer service. More recently, the readers of Northern Virginia Magazine have recognized our company as one of the Northern Virginias top design and remodeling companies, and Ana as one of the top designers. In July of 2020, Alexandria Living Magazine recognized us as one of the area’s 12 Best Interior Designers. We have 5 star reviews on Houzz, Home Advisor, and Facebook, and have won the coveted Best of Houzz customer service award 5 years in a row. The list goes on and on. \n\nSincerely,\n\nMatt Cholko & Ana Djevenica

Initially, he seemed like he was very very knowledgeable, very friendly and gave us thoughts that he knew what he was doing. They arrived on time. They're very good. The crew was pretty quick and efficient. One problem I had was they didn't come with enough materials. They had to reschedule for a completion of some. There were some minor issues that we ran into. They were supposed to paint the chimney cap and never actually did that. It's not a big deal but the other thing was the warranty and we kind of had a fight with them for the warranty to actually be processed. The warranty was the big thing and it was a lifetime warranty and I guess there were personal things that came up. It was just basically what I've learned late, but it took us probably eight months to get the warranty to be processed. That was my biggest concern, but the warranty company ensures me that everything is good even though the paperwork has the wrong number on there and I am assuming that's because they had the wrong number initially which is why they didn't have enough material.

Chimney Caps questions, answered by experts

No, range hoods do not necessarily have to be vented outside. Ductless or non-vented range hoods are available, which are common in condos or small kitchens where connecting to external ductwork isn't feasible. These hoods operate by taking in air, filtering it through charcoal filters to help eliminate smoke and odors, and then recirculating the cleaned air back into the kitchen. However, while these recirculating hoods are more versatile, venting to the outside is still the preferred and more effective method for completely removing smoke, odors, and gases from the room.

If a range hood has minor issues, the average repair costs $85 to $210. This accounts for both parts and labor. More extensive damage can cost as much as $300 to $500, at which point it may be worth considering completely replacing the range hood.

No, you can’t install just any microwave over your range. You have to get a specific type of microwave known as an over-the-range unit. These include venting and lighting features that you’ll need above your stovetop.

Although countertop units are more affordable, they won’t work for this type of installation. To avoid hazardous conditions in your kitchen, buy the right type of microwave for your needs.

A range hood is an exhaust fan for your kitchen, and several types and styles exist. They are meant to remove grease, moisture, and fumes from your stove. Although some models filter and recirculate the air, the most effective ones remove the air through a duct that’s vented to the outdoors.

Most residential range hoods have a CFM between 200 and 600. A higher CFM means your range hood is better at removing smoke and odors from your kitchen. The measurement ultimately depends on your stove’s width and heat output as well as the size of your kitchen.

Compared to the average size of a stove and kitchen, 350 CFM would be the minimum recommended rating for the average kitchen. However, selecting a higher CFM range hood would guarantee better ventilation to match your cooking habits, whether they’re minimal or extensive.
