Robert called to let me know that he was running early and to see if it would be OK for him to come out to the house an hour earlier than he had scheduled. That was fine with me (and I appreciated his courteousness). When he arrived at the house, he performed the work quickly and efficiently and was a true pleasure to deal with. It was also nice to do business with the owner of the company. I will use him again and I will definitely refer him to others. These days, it's very hard to find contractors of his caliber. Grab them when you can!

He cleaned out our fireplace and chimney. And walked us through how to use it safely. He was patient with questions and knowledgable and helpful and friendly and smart.
We are new home owners and this is our first time being able to use a fire place in a home that we own. He told us what we need to buy and what to watch for (a piece of glass in our fireplace door is falling out) and he showed us lots of things (like how to close the floo and such. He is also a firefighter and answered my questions about our fire alarm and things. He did a great job and was patient.

Before using our Fireplace, I bought a deal for a $99 Chimney inspection and cleaning. Apparently our chimney didn't need to be cleaned, but the Tech who came out did a rather thorough inspection. He let us know that the cap on our chimney needs to be replaced as water is getting into the brick and causing it to separate. He took photos while he was up there to show me which is a first and a great use of technology.

The representative did not show up on the day that we scheduled, but he called the next day to apologize and provided the service for free.

This was an Angie's List special.  Original appointment was missed; apparently it got lost in the "system" so Robert agreed to give me half off when he made new appointment.  However, that appt. also was rescheduled due to horrible ice conditions.  When he finally got here - service was superb!

Was only going to charge $15 for providing new pin and hole - but since he had miss the original appointment, we called it "even" and there was no charge.  I will definitely have him back in the future!  Service was courteous, quick and very professional.  Also did a great job!  Chimney hasn't been this clean since it was originally built almost 20 years ago!

I was very pleased with his punctuality, friendliness and quality of work. His price was less expensive by $300 than my friends work by another company.
He was prompt and re scheduled with me right away.
He is tech savvy and that made the experience just that much more pleasant.

He never showed up and I have tried to communicate with him several times and nothing got done.  I have decided to use a new chimney provider to do the chimney sweep instead.
Response from ASH BUSTERS CHIMNEY SWEEP
"We had tried to set up multiple appointments. We even came the day we were scheduled. No one was at residence at the time we scheduled the appointment. We waited 45 minutes. 3 calls were made as well as 4 emails through Angie's List email system. I'm truly sorry you were unhappy. But normally we do charge for appointments made of no show home owners. All of this was documented."

Chimney sweeper was very polite.  We had a bit of a mix up in that I'm new to Angie's List and didn't realize I was supposed to communicate with him via Angie's List, so I was waiting for him to phone me.  Once the misunderstanding was straightened out we set a time and day for the appointment.  Despite the brutal winter weather, and the distance he had to travel to Western Loudoun County in Northern Virginia, he showed up as scheduled and very efficiently cleaned the chimney flue.  He was prompt, thorough, and efficient.  I felt bad for him as he left in near-gale conditions outside, but it was great having a nice clean chimney that we could now use.

When Robert turned up (on time) he said he could inspect the chimneys but he could not clean out the pellet vent line as the stove had not been off for 48 hours (Robert had not told me to leave the stove off when we scheduled the appointment). He did do a 'tap test' on the lines and said they sounded as though there was not much build up in them. We chatted for a bit and then I asked him where he was off to next and he said he was going to the hospital as he thought he was having a heart attack. I thought he was joking but he was not and so I told him to stay while I called 911. After much debate, he insisted that he would be fine and drove away. (I kid you not - this is true). I called him a few hours later and he was, indeed in the hospital undergoing tests. I wished him well and thought that was the end of it. Two days later, my pellet stove started billowing thick black smoke into the house and it started spitting glowing pellets from the back of the stove into the room. Obviously this was not a good situation and so I switched the stove off, opened all of the windows and monitored the stove until it had completed its shut down and cooled down (about 3 hours). Fortunately nothing caught light but the house was filled with smoke and smelled for days - not to mention how cold it was with the windows open!. I called the stove manufacturer for advice and they felt the only possible reason the stove would do this is if the chimney or vent pipe was blocked. I took the vent pipe apart and it was completely filled with soot from the stove outlet all  the way to the chimney inlet (a distance of about 8 feet). So much for 'the vent pipe sounding OK!! I cleaned the whole vent pipe myself by literally extruding the compact soot and reinstalled the vent pipe. Everything has been perfect since and the stove is working normally. This was such a bizarre incident that i do not know whether Robert really didn't feel up to checking the stove or whether he really did need 48 hours in order to clean it (I did it after the stove had been off for about 24 hours). What is indisputable is that he made a bad call on whether the vent was clear or not and that could have resulted in my house burning down. As it was it took days a few bottles of Febreze to get rid of the smoke smell. i cannot really say that he did a bad job as he didn't do all of the work I asked him to do. What he did with the chimney seems fine and he is a super nice guy but, unfortunately the pellet stove incident left me with a nasty taste in my mouth about Ashbusters - both literally and metaphorically and so I would not use them again.
