"Tony did a lot in three days: refinished the floors in two rooms, painted, removed an old washer/dryer unit and built shelves in the alcove. We have been looking for months for someone reliable to do work on our place in Sperryville. Tac's Handy Services is the answer. We highly recommend!"
"Daniel provided the best contractor experience I have ever had. The work was completed thoroughly and quickly on the first time and date I asked for. He was very personable and even showed me some tips so I wouldn't need to hire someone for small issues. I look forward to working him again in the future and have recommended his business to friends."

"We had Jimenez Painting completely repaint (siding and trim) our aging home, it was a significant project, and they did GREAT. 100% recommend. Respectful, Reliable, High Quality."
"They have done old time plastering, painting, and other work around the home. They did complete restoration on the walls. Their work is effective and detailed. They are very honest. I found them in the newspaper, and I have been so pleased with the work that they have done. I cannot say enough good things about them."
"Dave is absolutely terrific. This is the 4th time I have used him for re-modeling work and I was not disappointed. His workmanship is first rate. He pays meticulous attention to detail, which is especially important in tiling work. His carpentry work is equally well done. He is very innovative and can offer excellent suggestions on how to improve your basic re-modeling concepts. He is totally responsive to the customer. He will do whatever you want him to do and change whatever you want him to change. He does not argue with you or try to make you feel like you're an idiot when you ask a question or propose an idea (like some contractors and most car mechanics). He tries to figure out how to make what you want happen. He is extremely knowledgeable about the full scope of his profession, including all code requirements. He does not cut corners and is just as concerned about getting the stuff you don't see right as he is about getting the stuff you see right. He is totally honest and up front about all his work and his costs. The cost of this particular project (or projects) did increase but that was because the project evolved. He was completely up-front about costs as the project evolved. In some cases the costs increased because he found rotting pipes behind the walls (shoddy materials used by the builder) and other hidden problems. He showed me those problems and explained the costs in both material and time. He is completely trustworthy. I had no qualms about giving him the ability to let himself into my house and work there alone. I have never had a problem. He is very careful about cleaning up after himself too. Despite the major work being done my house was still livable and presentable enough for me to have guests. Dave is a one-man contractor show which allows him to be totally flexible in meeting your needs, to give you a great price and to work with a focus on quality and getting the job done right rather than paying attention to a clock or the calendar. The only drawback with Dave being a one-man show is that he has no real back-up. If he gets sick or his truck breaks down or he has to deal with a family issue, there is no one to come and substitute for him. So there is a need for his customers to be flexible when working with him. Everything always gets done and it always gets done to perfection but, depending on the type of job it is, it may take longer than either you or Dave originally planned. He is also sometimes hard to get in touch with because he's running in so many directions. Persistence pays off though. That said, if you want a contractor who is totally trustworthy and does absolutely superior work at an excellent price, there is no better guy to call than Dave. I will definitely continue to use him for any home remodeling needs. "
If you buy new cedar, the process of cutting it usually roughs up the surface enough that it doesn’t require sanding. However, if you buy older cedar or you’re repurposing it from another application, it’s a good idea to sand it. This helps the stain settle into the grain, and results in a more uniform appearance.
Siding underlayment varies based on the type of material, but most siding is installed on top of a vapor barrier, a moisture-resistant house wrap, sheathing made from plywood or oriented strand board (OSB), and a layer of insulation sheeting. Having the correct underlayment is a critical part of properly installing siding and will protect your home from water intrusion, structural damage, and energy loss.

Contrary to popular belief, people still do use aluminum siding for their homes—but it’s much less popular than it was in the mid-1900s. The introduction of various types of vinyl siding as an affordable option reduced the demand for aluminum, which is prone to scratching and denting and needs to be repainted every five to 10 years. Given the abundance of house siding options, especially newer and more popular types like stone veneer siding, aluminum siding has simply just fallen out of favor.
Clapboard is considered to be eco-friendly, as it is mostly sourced from sustainable natural resources and it has insulating properties. Clapboard is more sustainable than vinyl siding materials, which are made of plastic. Clapboard made from fiber cement can also be considered environmentally friendly. This material mimics the look of wood without the impact of deforestation.
