Two reps from A&T Chimney Sweeps came on time and quickly went to work, making sure to wear booties and laying a mat on the floor to keep the area clean. 

At first, one of the workers said he thought the chimney was extremely dirty, but it turned out that was just accumulated dust from when he removed the "stopper."  The chimney itself was actually clean.  I was glad to have this verified.  I had never used the chimney, though I didn't know if the former tenants had when the house was rented out, which was why I took advantage of the Angie's Special Deal. 

The two reps were efficient, spending perhaps a total of 20 minutes doing the job. 

My only complaint was that. since I never used the chimney, I asked if A&T would be able to remove it, thereby giving me more space in the basement where it was located.  The senior representative took a few pictures of the chimney, inside and out, and sent it to his boss who promised a reply about what removal might cost. I never got an answer. (But to be completely fair, I never followed up either.)

This is the second time an Angie's List Deal has proved to be an especially good bargain,  When I used a Deal to get my gutters cleaned, the company also found the gutters to be debris-free.  You feel better when you don't have to pay top dollar for the service that proved not to be really needed.

"I had to call the office several times to actually make the appointment for the men to come. The gentleman I spoke to was polite and explained that because of the special offer response which was great it would take  some time to get out to do the work. I understood that.
However, when the service men came to do the chimney the tools they brought were inadequate. The brush was small and the vacuum they used looked like a residential model shop vac. Although they were very pleasant and on time I know from comparing what they did to past chimney cleaning experiences that it was a very poor and incomplete job. I am planning to have the chimney recleaned this fall because we live in a very old frame house and I cannot risk a chimney fire. I'm certain that the amount of creosote and soot I can see when I look up the chimney is still too much.
I wonder if this job was less than the usual full priced job they do because it was an Angie's List "special". I will not take part in any more of those deals. In the long run they are no deal at all. If the company was hoping to get business as a result of the exposure of this promotion I can only say that I will not call them again.

"Two gentlemen arrived, very courteous and professional.  I escorted one gentleman to the furnace area to investigate what would be cleaned.  I was amazed to see what I saw!  Soot (looking more like crumbled dirt and sand) nearly filled the flue; solid evidence there was a serious and potentially unsafe problem in that side of the chimney.  The other gentleman shared that he'd go to the top of the chimney to advise me of the condition.  He also took pictures on their phones so I could see the condition above.  There was no cap on the furnace chimney (I had one on the fireplace chimney).  He also looked into the fireplace chimney which I greatly appreciated.  One gentleman advised me of the cost of the repairs, I agreed to the cost, and they began working.  These gentlemen were outstanding; demonstrating great concern for the safety of my home.  I would not hesitate to use them again.

"Johnnie Mack and crew came on 2/1 to asset the cause of the leak in my living room. Chimney was in desperate need of repair. Mr. Mack also inspected the fireplaces and the interior of the chimney. He informed me the fireplaces were satisfactory, but the interior of the chimney was lined with the wrong material. The lining was not in immediate need, but was something that should be taken care in the near future. We made arrangements for the chimney repair the following week, but the weather was not cooperating. Mr. Mack called on 2/9 to come on 2/10 between 12-1pm. The crew came at 12:45 and went straight to work. Johnnie came at 1:15 and stayed until the work was completed, made sure we were satisfied with what was done. The project cost was less than the quoted free estimate. We were so impressed with the professionalism of Johnnie and his crew; he offered more suggestions to make this 1929 house efficient. If it wasn't for Angie's list I would have never found such a gem!"
