Most standard refrigerators last between 10 and 18 years, though the average life expectancy is about 14 years. Compact fridges have shorter life spans, usually between 4 and 12 years. To maximize your fridge’s life expectancy, be sure to clean it regularly and schedule regular maintenance with a local refrigerator repair company.

Every family’s needs will be different, but here’s a general guide to refrigerator size:

  • A 4—to 13 cu. ft. fridge, including top-freezer and bottom-freezer fridges, is best for one to two people.
