"Paving Plus is fantastic! They responded immediately to my quote request. They came out the same day to give an estimate. The work was also completed the next day. The driveway looks better than ever. The quality of their work is exceptional and they are fantastic to work with. Polite, and grateful for your business. I would recommend them to anyone!"

"My wife and I built a house in 2019 and was undecided on if we wanted to hard surface our driveway so we decided to hold off. As we moved into spring/summer 2020 we decided to move forward with hard surfacing our driveway. After receiving 2 asphalt quotes I reached out to Chris with Extreme Design and he not only provided a competitive quote for asphalt he also provided a concrete quote. My wife and decided to go with concrete, and we are happy with that decision. Chris and his team showed up on time, had the proper equipment and seasoned man power and delivered an awesome driveway for us. If we ever need any other hard surfacing done we will be calling Chris and team!!!"

"They are excellent. They were so good, we ended up hiring them to put in hardwood floors, they painted all of upstairs, remodeled the entire kitchen, and they replaced some tile in our ceiling. We have been hiring them over the course of two years and they have been excellent. We highly recommend them to our friends all the time and we will be hiring them again."

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

Homeowners in Virginia often underestimate the importance of a solid foundation. A common mistake is failing to properly compact the sub-base, especially with the region's clay-heavy soil, leading to premature sinking and cracks. Another oversight is applying sealer too soon or not at all, which leaves new asphalt vulnerable to UV damage and moisture intrusion, significantly shortening its lifespan.

Helpful?

For families in Salem, project safety is a top priority. Establish a clear "no-go" zone using temporary safety fencing far from the work area. Plan the project for a time when children are at school to minimize foot traffic. Keep pets secured indoors for at least 48-72 hours post-paving to prevent paw burns and tracking of oily materials into your home.

Helpful?

To maintain your asphalt in Salem, assemble a small toolkit. A stiff-bristled push broom is essential for removing debris that can cause stains or decay. Keep a high-quality, elastomeric crack filler on hand for sealing small fissures before they expand. For winter safety, use a calcium chloride-based de-icer instead of rock salt, which can be corrosive to asphalt surfaces over time.

Helpful?

In Salem, small asphalt issues can worsen due to local climate conditions. Look for alligator cracking (interconnected cracks) or any single crack wider than a quarter-inch, as these allow moisture to penetrate and erode the base. Puddles that don't evaporate after a rainstorm indicate poor drainage. Faded, gray asphalt is brittle and more susceptible to damage from freeze-thaw cycles, requiring professional attention.

Helpful?

After your asphalt project in Virginia, patience is key. Avoid parking on the new surface for at least three to five days, especially in warmer weather, to prevent tire marks. After about 90 days, apply a high-quality sealcoat to protect against oxidation and moisture. Plan to inspect your driveway for any new cracks after the first winter and fill them promptly.
