"Paving Plus was hired to put down asphalt driveways for my mom and my aunt. The pictures below are of my mom?s driveway. They came out and worked on the driveways until after dark. They sealed it right after it was done. They did not wait the recommended amount of time to let it cure. They have both had issues with the softness of their driveways because it has not cured and Paving Plus put several coats of sealer on both driveways. Very poor communication. I know they will comment on this review that they couldn?t please them it has now been two years since their driveways were done. They passed from person to person and all they do is keep sealing them. They continue to tell them that asphalt is like that. It will leave marks if you move your tires. It was so soft our feet were sticking to it after a 2 years! I have found out that you should not seal the driveway until it?s been months-year before you seal it. Now they are throwing their hands up. We called our attorney. "

By October of 2020, he was $100000 over budget and the outside wasn't even completed, additionally, the basement walls were leaking. He spent a year saying he would fix the leaks, then ghosted us. We had to hire a lawyer to get his attention. Now almost 4 years later, the wall is failing and he still refuses to accept responsibility. He gives references who are friends or family. BEWARE."

That being said, concrete resurfacing and asphalt resurfacing are cost-effective options if the underlying structure is still strong enough to support your vehicle but just needs an extra layer to prolong its life.

Others are sorted by composition, like dense-graded, gap-graded (such as Stone Matrix Asphalt), porous, and mastic asphalt. There are also modified versions with added compounds like polymers, rubber, or emulsions. Instead of focusing on a number, it may be more useful to understand how contractors customize asphalt for durability, climate, and traffic conditions.

Even with regular maintenance, most driveways don’t last much longer than 30 years. Alligator cracking is a clear warning sign that your driveway’s foundation is failing, and cracks that are deep and wide can let water in, causing more damage. Standing water is another red flag. If your driveway doesn’t drain properly, it’s going to degrade slowly. Finally, if you’re seeing dips or uneven patches, that’s a sign the base layer or soil is shifting. If these issues pop up, it’s time to replace your driveway.

Concrete is typically the best material for a driveway if you’re looking for longevity, cost-effectiveness, and ease of maintenance. But, it’s not ideal for areas with annual freeze-frost cycles, nor is it the most attractive option—although you can get it stamped or painted. If your location is consistently below freezing, asphalt may be a better choice.
