"We were notified by the water company that we had a leak in our water supply between our house and the water main. It seemed like we were facing a complicated repair that would require extensive trenching and going through walls as well as a concrete floor. Randall from Jefferson Plumbing offered a trenchless replacement option that worked like a miracle. He installed a new line where the existing pipe had been with minimal disruption inside our house and outside by the meter. He was a consummate professional, explaining all our options as well as how his trenchless process worked from start to finish. He did the work quickly - basically in a day and a half. I would offer him my highest recommendation for service and value."

Sewer Cleaning questions, answered by experts

No, you should not see water in a sewer cleanout. If you do, it could indicate that you have a block or leak in your main sewer line—which can cause sewage to back up inside your home and potentially flood your yard. Your best bet is to call a local sewer cleaner if you notice any water or sewage around your cleanout.

Knowing the signs can alert you to a clogged drain line. Clogs cause slow drainage or cause no drainage (if there’s a complete blockage). You may also notice foul odors, gurgling noises, water backing up in other appliances on the same line, or a poorly flushing toilet. If you experience any of these issues and think your line might be clogged, call a plumber.

Simple blockages can be cleared using household plungers or manual snakes, provided no severe plumbing issues exist.

If the toilet is overflowing but there’s no clog, that’s a sign that the issue is deeper in the system, and plunging may not help. A blockage in your home’s plumbing, the plumbing vent, or even city sewer lines can cause toilets to overflow. The issue could also be the toilet itself if the filler float isn’t set to the correct height or if parts are damaged or worn out.

If you want to avoid using a snake to unclog a drain, or if you don’t have one, try vinegar and baking soda. Pour 1 cup of baking soda down the drain, followed by 1 cup of white vinegar. Wait for 15 minutes, and then run hot water (but not boiling water) down the drain to see if the clog is clear. Repeat multiple times as needed.
