"We had a great experience with the Lux Renovations and Owens Corning team. The whole process was very easy from designing the space, selecting colors, and having a contract manager who organized the entire basement remodel including all the trades and inspections. We were sold on the Owens Corning materials for the basement and that they were engineered specifically for a basement space. Would highly recommend this team for your basement remodel needs."

"Our basement floor was covered in carpet and the fireplace was brick that was 25 years old.   Sosa tile came in and tore it all out and replace the floors and fireplace with tile.  He was prompt, and courteous and completed on schedule and within budget.  He  cleaned up after himself and tidy the workspace every day.  He has a positive attitude and is an extremely hard worker.  His craftsmanship and professionalism is excellent.  We decided to hire him to completely gut all three of our bathrooms and to resurface the floors and walls with tile."

Basement Remodel questions, answered by experts

If you don’t have a crawl space but have a partial basement you want to make deeper, you can expect to spend a little less—between $40,000 and $90,000 on average. However, if you’re not adding new finished square footage, you won’t see much in the way of ROI.

Yes. Renovating your basement has a return on investment (ROI) of 75%, meaning your remodel investment will significantly increase the value of your home. Besides the ROI, your family can enjoy a larger, more usable space while you live there.

The difficulty of adding a basement to an existing house can vary depending on the house’s location, the size of the basement, and the type and condition of the existing foundation. Adding a basement is a job best handled by the pros, so you’ll need to enlist professional help for this project.

For most basement remodels, you’ll want to hire a general contractor. This is for a number of reasons, but the main two are that general contractors have dedicated teams they are comfortable with, and hiring one means you only have to deal with one pro. You may also get a better project quote since they can lump all their work and subcontracting into a single quote.

Yes, most general contractors require an initial down payment, typically between 10% and 25% of the total project cost. This upfront payment helps cover the costs of materials, permits, and subcontractors. The remaining project costs are usually billed after specific project milestones are reached or on set completion dates, as outlined in your contract. Be wary of contractors who require a significant deposit of 50% or more upfront, as this could be a red flag for a scam.
