Raven Pest Control is a pest service company operating in Northern Virginia (3 employees). We are licensed, insured, and certified in all pest control related areas (VDAG Business #10912). We do not use subcontractors. All technicians are state certified. We have a Certified Entomologist on our full time staff to serve your needs. We have been in the industry in a technical level for over 20 years. Before starting the company, the owner trained technical personnel in large companies. We specialize in bed bug services, and difficult problems that may require an in depth understanding of pest biology. Our first inspections are always free, with no obligation (WDIR reports for realtor's have a $35 fee). We offer both general pest control programs, as well as combination termite and general pest programs. The initial setup fee for homes under 400 linear feet is $155 for a general pest program (for homes above 400 LFT, fee is based on size). Maintenance fees for homes under 400 LTF is $95 for general program on a quarterly schedule. All programs have warranties of unlimited, no-charge call back services for any covered pest. We respond within one business day to any need. We stand behind our services. So we use agreements, not contracts and services may be canceled by the client for any reason without penalties or additional fees. We would be glad to provide references of others who have our services when we visit you. Ask about our tick and mosquito program

The owner and head technician, Jesse Jardim, created SBBS when his own home was victim to a bed bug infestation, and he viewed the emotional and physical trauma associated with the pests. Traditional pest control companies were incapable of successfully treating his home and Jesse heard similar stories from others. Jesse decided that the Washington DC Area needed a company specialized in bed bugs. After intense research and preparation, he devised the most effective solution to detect and eradicate bed bugs within homes and businesses. All staff and canines are trained by the Forensic and Science Investigation Institute and certified by the World Dog Detection Organization. We use Temp-Air's Thermal Remediation System, the leading manufacturer of bed bug heat treatment equipment. Superior Bed Bug Solutions is a licensed and insured pest control company located in Alexandria, VA.

"Unsuccessful, but OK. This company doesn't do roof work or anything involving ladders for insurance reasons, so the inspection was limited. Visible parts of the house and roof were inspected, no obvious entry points were found. We had a good discussion about what the pests might be (flying squirrels, roof rats), what I should look for, and the best way to seal up access points. Plus a side discussion on mice bait and bait stations. Some areas for me to investigate up close were pointed out. I was not charged, so essentially received a free consultation which provided value to me. I'll just have to get up on the roof myself (again) and take a better look around. I would be willing to hire Pestek for work that doesn't require climbing."

"Terrible company. They are not upfront about cost of services and tack on additional fees without informing you. This is a company that is only after the money and hook you into a contract. The product is not even very effective. I have watched them perform the service via my home security system while I have been away and the yard guard is a joke. They casually apply it around the perimeter of your home, but isn't it intended to guard your entire yard? This company is a joke. Never again."

"I was on the hospital when they did the job but it looks like the insects have disappeared when I came back. They charged me $225 for the whole thing. I don't use pest control services that often so I don't know if that's a good or bad price. They were pretty responsive. The guy was friendly. Very professional."

Pest Control questions, answered by experts

Yes, crawl spaces can attract bugs, especially since moisture tends to build up in the space, and moisture attracts pests. A good way to prevent pest infestation in your crawl space is to install a vapor barrier—called crawl space encapsulation—on the interior to seal the space, along with a French drain or some other kind of foundation drainage system outside to keep runoff out of your crawl space. You can also seal foundation cracks and repair damages to cut off access to pests.

No, water bugs are not big roaches. Water bugs and cockroaches are different insects entirely, belonging to different orders. They are often confused for one another because they are similar in appearance, but water bugs and cockroaches have close-up differences in how they look, plus they behave and feed in very different ways.

You’re not likely to find water bugs in your house. They may accidentally come in an open door when flying, especially since they are attracted to lights. But water bugs tend to stay stationary in bodies of water. You’re much more likely to see a roach in your home, not a water bug.

It is very difficult to remove a colony entirely without using some kind of insecticide. However, some treatments are safer than others. Diatomaceous earth is a non-toxic powder application that creates barriers that insects can’t pass through. Some pest control companies offer liquid nitrogen treatments to freeze out termites without using pesticides. Some chemical treatments are safer to use around plants, water, and wildlife than others. Bait stations are generally less damaging to the environment than sprayed termiticides.

Squirrels tend to forage, traveling along roof and fence lines. To trap a squirrel, placing a baited trap on the roof near the point of entry is the best option. If you can see them going in and out or recognize the damage they might be causing to the exterior of your home, you can also try placing traps near those locations.
