"Tristan showed up promptly, described what he wanted to do, and was a great sounding board for future projects. We will be using Soss' Services and Tristan for many more projects to come. I would highly recommend at least giving them a call for a quote for any housing needs."

"Contracted Kevin to build a 26x28 garage with an attic loft. This was after a lot of research on what I could afford, what I couldn’t afford, and the must haves verses the nice to have options. I reviewed at least ten contractors thoroughly, vetted down to three, ended up in detailed conversations with two and in the end Kevin’s experience, personability, and communication won the day. I’m not what you would call an easy customer as I’m a program manager by profession and hugely detailed oriented with a dose of OCD compounded by 27 years in the military. Kevin communicated the expectations of how it will get bad before it gets good, i.e. it’s a game of patience, the area is going to get destroyed, and we’re basically going to break some eggs to make this omelet. All good, and when I felt like the start of this thing was never going to happen, Kevin snapped me back into reality. I enjoyed his visits and engagements as the project went on. I endeavored to stay out of the way but watch and filmed (time lapse) as the garage was being built. I could not be happier with the end result and honestly it was just impressive to see the various crews execute their portion of the build. It definitely takes patients, but the end result is absolutely worth the journey. I could not give a stronger endorsement of picking Kevin to make your project happen. He’s a great family guy, musician, and you just feel better being around him. He passes the beer and puppy test. Yes, and a Yes. If you don’t know, google it."

"MLS Renovations took over a staircase redesign project I started in 2022 involving staining handrails, newel posts, and knee walls and replacing my builder-grade white balusters with iron balusters. Physical limitations and lack of skills led me to admit defeat and hire a professional. I am so grateful that professional turned out to be Michael Spangler and his company, MLS Renovations. Michael and his assistant, Jason, redid the knee walls I had stained (and ended up hating) in white semi-gloss to match my wainscoting and installed my iron balusters. I love how it turned out. It reflects exactly what I had envisioned and had tried to accomplish. Michael also repaired a leaking shower for us, which he completed with ease and saved us a ton of money as opposed to hiring an overcharging plumbing company. Michael is personable, professional, skilled, and flexible. He has expertise in many areas of home repair, which I definitely plan to take advantage of! Below/after pics attached."

"Hugh and his wife did an amazing job painting my brand new front porch. He went above and beyond my greatest expectations, turning my front porch into the envy of the neighborhood. I can't wait to start my next project, just to give me an excuse to work with him again. Rarely am I pleasantly surprised when having to hire someone to help me out...I was blown away by Hugh's attention to detail and quality of work."

"The work that he did was exactly what we asked for. He did a complete rip out of the old shower, jetted tub, water closet and L-shaped double vanity. He went down to the studs of a 13 x 13.5 bathroom. He installed a 5x 7 low entry tiled shower with bench for handicap access. He also installed a toilet with handicap access, a bench and tower cabinet for storage. He Installed new flooring and a vanity with large 14”x 36” sink and two linen towers. He also installed 11 LED lights in the ceiling and two separate LED lights w/blowers."

"Bill is very creative, thoughtful, and very patient to work with. He and his company are developing blueprints for the renovation of our basement. His company is then going to submit the plans for permitting. He is also helping my wife with the design of our bathroom remodeling. We could not be more satisfied with a companies work."

One starting point to find a local home builder is to collect suggestions from friends and neighbors. However, it’s still wise to do some more research before you hire a builder. Read reviews to supplement any word-of-mouth recommendations. Check sources like Angi that have standards and criteria in place to screen the pros it lists can also help you find more reputable local home builders.
Typically, it’s more affordable to buy an existing home than it is to build a new one. New construction loan interest rates tend to be higher than interest rates for traditional mortgages. Additionally, the cost of materials is likely higher when building a new home than it was when an existing home was built (unless it’s a very new one). You’re also paying for all new appliances, finishes, permits, inspections, and connections for water, gas, and electricity.
Knowing if you need an architect for your project can be tricky, especially if you've never worked with one before. In general, small remodeling projects like replacing fixtures typically don't require the expertise of an architect. However, larger projects, like moving walls or adding an addition to your home, should include an architect to ensure the project is structurally sound.
