Over 12 years experience in construction and handyman services. Carpentry, tile, wood floors, sheds, playground, treehouse, deck's, sidewalks, sump pumps, fence, pergola, siding, porch, stairs, painting, landscaping, woodworking, cabinetry, framing, drywall, windows, doors, and more.

"If I could give zero stars I would! We had the most HORRIBLE experience with Christan/Nighthawk!!! We had a 3 phase home addition that was to be done in 6 months. It took 11 months and he only made it thru phase 2. He took our money then proceeded to only show up once a week for most of the project!! He left our roof off - exposing our home to extensive damage that he ignored - for 3 MONTHS!!!! He claimed we were a priority project to him and yet never showed up. And to add insult to injury the work he did was AWFUL! Framing was left exposed to the elements so long it grew mold (that we had to treat on our own dime) and the inside framing was so wrong that we had to rip it down and fix on our own. Beware of a sheep in wolfs clothing. Christian talks a good game and you'll believe he is a good guy/business man but he did us sooooo wrong!!! All I can say is do not make the same mistake we did - go with someone else!!!!"

Eds landscaping is a family-owned, 60 acre, full service Garden Center and Growing Facility located in Mechanicsville, Virginia. We service Richmond, Mechanicsville, Tappahanock, Petersburg, Williamsburg, Chesterfield and surrounding areas. We operate mainly by referrals and pride ourselves on quality, knowledge and service. Being a full service company we can help with all aspects of your outdoor needs. Our Designers can consult with you for your landscaping, patios, retaining walls, ponds, lighting, drainage and irrigation needs. Sketches to full scale landscape designs are available and we can install everything we design. Once we have designed and installed your dream garden our Maintenance Department can keep it looking beautiful with year round total maintenance packages, nine or ten month periodic packages or one time cleanups. These include grass cutting, mulching, spraying for insects and disease, lawn renovation, feeding of shrubs and lawn. We can also install spring and winter annuals.

"I have never taken the time to write a review about a company but if I can save anyone from the hardship that I have experienced in my dealings, it is worth the time to write this review. A project leader came out and chatted leisurely about what they would do for a project and then when it came time to do the project, the person who spent the time discussing and designing it was never on site. People came out to do the work that were barely made privy to the original discussion and it showed. The person that spent ample time chatting was regularly too busy to make it out to be present for any portion of the actual work. Moreover, half the pants were subpar and needed replacing. The second time some went bad I just decided to not call them back. Meanwhile, I also spent $5000 + on a dry creek bed and drainage pipe install that made my run off situation MUCH WORSE. My parents lived in my house for 14 years prior to me and they just touched up gravel runoff in one to two areas with a rake after a rain. Now I need heavy equipment after each major rain. The water doesn't get to the pipe they dug up my drive to install at the start of the dry creek bed. It cuts a rut across my drive and goes in to the bed. When it does make it to the bed, the rock from the dry creek bed washes in the woods. When they put the dry creek bed in they regraded my drive without any discussion and pushed a large amount of rock to one side and it has been an awful mess of rock wash where they pushed it since. I had to replant periwinkle where they made these "improvements" of the install of the dry creek bed and have spent hundreds of dollars to fill in the areas that were disrupted during the installation. On top of it all, they charged me 300 to come put the rock back that had washed out of the dry creek bed in the woods and that smooth out the drive from the rock wall that they graded where the rock had washed and made massive culverts of rock wash. The second time I had a disaster with it occurring again their solution was to say that they did not think they were the right person for the job (?!?!) and that "we've experienced record breaking rains". They never even came out to see the mess that they helped create, at the tune of over a $5300 investment to "fix", and it's worse than ever before. I've truly NEVER had such a disappointing experience with a company."

Founded in 1876 in Chesterfield County "J.B. Watkins & Brother" originally specialized in the mail order supply of small fruit trees. Over time the product line grew to include a variety of deciduous trees, shrubs, and ornamental plants. J.B. Watkins & Brother became a leading importer and propagator of European ornamental plants, many of which were introduced into this country by the nursery and have since become widely used in American landscape design. In 1998 the Nursery closed its Midlothian Turnpike location and moved to its current location on Dry Bridge Road. Five generations and a name change later, Watkins Nurseries is still growing in the Richmond area. Today the Nursery specializes in landscape design as well as the wholesale and retail sale of field-grown plants.

"We had the pleasure of working with Watkins Nurseries for our outdoor living space renovation and could not be more pleased with the results. From the initial consultation to the final completion, Watkins Nurseries was professional and knowledgeable. They were able to take our vision and turn it into reality, transforming our yard into a beautiful outdoor living space. The attention to detail was outstanding and the quality of their work was top notch. We were also impressed with the customer service, as they were always available to answer any questions we had. Overall, we are very pleased with the work Watkins Nurseries did and highly recommend them."

"I chose Virginia Custom Buildings to replace a storm damaged shed because the destroyed shed was built in the 60s and was solid wood. I wanted to replace it as close to the original as possible. The shed was ordered and delivered to the VCB lot. It took several months before it was dry enough to be delivered in my yard. Rodney told me that he had backed into it on the lot and put a small hole in the siding. He said he had ordered a replacement piece to repair it. Unfortunately, the hole went through the wood inside. When I asked if he realized that, he said, "No" and that he was sorry. I was not happy that I was paying full price for a damaged shed. I held off payment, waiting for him to somehow make it right. He never did. Then I was told I would be turned over to collections if I didn't pay. I feel that I should have been given a discounted price for a shed that has a hole in it. I am so disappointed. "

Greenhouses and Nurseries questions, answered by experts

The quickest way you can protect plants and trees from frost is to cover them with garden blankets or frost cloths. Also, bringing potted plants or trees indoors is much simpler than trying to cover and protect them outdoors. Remember to anchor blankets with something such as sandbags, fabric pins, or rocks if the forecast calls for strong winds to keep them from blowing away and exposing your trees and plants.

Yes, proper grounding rods and conductors are essential for an effective system.

Increases living space and adds value to the home through enhanced utility.

The choice is really yours. Greenhouses available in kits can make the job go quicker. You can find greenhouse kits to match your style and size needs. The only real drawback to green building is that it’s more expensive up front, with per-square-foot prices sitting 33% higher than what you’d pay to build a traditional home. The higher cost is due to more expensive building materials and more labor to ensure every aspect of the home is as efficient as possible. However, green buildings often save money in the long run, so this is just a temporary downside.
