I have never taken the time to write a review about a company but if I can save anyone from the hardship that I have experienced in my dealings, it is worth the time to write this review. A project leader came out and chatted leisurely about what they would do for a project and then when it came time to do the project, the person who spent the time discussing and designing it was never on site. People came out to do the work that were barely made privy to the original discussion and it showed. The person that spent ample time chatting was regularly too busy to make it out to be present for any portion of the actual work. Moreover, half the pants were subpar and needed replacing. The second time some went bad I just decided to not call them back. Meanwhile, I also spent $5000 + on a dry creek bed and drainage pipe install that made my run off situation MUCH WORSE. My parents lived in my house for 14 years prior to me and they just touched up gravel runoff in one to two areas with a rake after a rain. Now I need heavy equipment after each major rain. The water doesn't get to the pipe they dug up my drive to install at the start of the dry creek bed. It cuts a rut across my drive and goes in to the bed. When it does make it to the bed, the rock from the dry creek bed washes in the woods. When they put the dry creek bed in they regraded my drive without any discussion and pushed a large amount of rock to one side and it has been an awful mess of rock wash where they pushed it since. I had to replant periwinkle where they made these "improvements" of the install of the dry creek bed and have spent hundreds of dollars to fill in the areas that were disrupted during the installation. On top of it all, they charged me 300 to come put the rock back that had washed out of the dry creek bed in the woods and that smooth out the drive from the rock wall that they graded where the rock had washed and made massive culverts of rock wash. The second time I had a disaster with it occurring again their solution was to say that they did not think they were the right person for the job (?!?!) and that "we've experienced record breaking rains". They never even came out to see the mess that they helped create, at the tune of over a $5300 investment to "fix", and it's worse than ever before. I've truly NEVER had such a disappointing experience with a company.

As promised,a few weeks after meeting with the designer the crew showed up. Everyone was very courteous and professional; explaining everything as they went along. They even did acouple of extra projects for me when I asked. The whole job was completed in one day. I am really pleased with the outcome. Next year I definitely will hire them for landscaping the back.

After experiencing frustrations due to poor communications trying to schedule an appointment with the staff at Ed?s Landscaping & Garden Center over a 5 day period, we did not feel comfortable meeting with them to discuss our landscaping projects.

I did not use them because I am not quite ready to do the work but I would probably use them in the fall. They were by far the best and competitive with their pricing. They came out and looked at the work that I wanted to have done and they got back to me in a very timely fashion. They were very professional. They were very good at explaining what needed to be done or how they thought it needed to be done and breaking down the cost.

Darrel came out and provided estimate.  He was on time, courteous, and professional.  He listened to my preferences and ideas.  He made suggestions, took pictures, and measurements.  Ed's Landscaping was one of three landscapers that I contacted to provide estimates.  Darrel was one of two that actually showed up.  Of the two--he was the only one that listened to me, provided guidance and suggestions, took pictures, etc.  He was also the only one that followed up on our discussion with a very competitive quote, a plan and a list of plants.  Although I haven't installed the plans--I plan on doing so in the very near future.  Would definitely recommend Ed's Landscaping.

They were fantastic.  I got 3 or 4 estimates and all the others were really just irrigation guys.  I never had grass in the yard (had trees removed first).  I now have grass!!!  They were the only ones who saw the need for an erosion control blanket (which was only $150).

Great!  The workers were nice and worked hard.   Our neighborhood awarded us "Yard-of-the-Month when they were finished!
We are very pleased with the results.

I like the bigger nurseries like Sandys, in Mechanicsville.  The bigger ones seem better priced and more knowledgeable.

The crew arrived when they supposed to and spread the mulch at the proper depth throughout the entire property.  It was conducted very professionally.  Afterward, the crew supervisor checked back to make sure that everything was done properly.  I have had very good luck with the service from Ed's Landscaping throughout the years.

First--let me say that my initial dealing with Ed's Landscaping was for an estimate on grading and driveway installation. I did not hire them (or anyone) because they only did one kind of paving, and I haven't hired anyone for the drive because I haven't found one that I feel will meet my needs.
I called Ed's again on Monday (22nd) for Darrell to come back out for an estimate on *just the grading.* He called this morning to schedule a meeting. I jokingly said "a half and hour.* His response--"is an hour okay?" PROMPT? (yes) RELIABLE? (yes) Cost (undetermined) OVERALL? (A-PLUS)

JP of Ed's Landscaping was fantastic.  He was so pleasant to speak with, and he took his time to explain what and how he was doing things.  The quote came in under the three other landscaping contractors I had contacted, but the service didn't suffer for it.  The trees/brush were down quickly, and the stumps (though very extensive... very big trees) were ground thoroughly so we've had no regrowth.  The french drain project was extensive, with hundreds of pounds of soil and gravel dug out and some relocated to the backyard.  They did a wonderful job sealing the wall and installing proper drainage, and we've had absolutely no wetness in our basement since, despite some very heavy rains soon after install.  After such a great couple of experiences, we plan on using these guys for all of our landscaping needs.

Very prompt in visiting property and providing estimate. Unfortunately, about 30% higher than competitors' quotes so we didn't select this contractor.

We contacted three landscapers for this project.  We told each that the project entailed finishing a project started by another landscaper that had ended badly.  Darrell from Ed's was most responsive and spent a lot of time with us going over our concerns and suggesting ideas about how to solve our drainage problem and what plants would work best.  JP, Red, and the rest of the crew were always prompt, polite, and knowledgeable.  Unlike our previous landscaper, they obviously knew what they were doing and took pride in their work.  The project was finished in 10 days .  (We had expected that it would take longer!)  We recommend them very highly.

Amazing.  First the project manager was extremely responsive and timely with setting up the initial meeting, getting the quote to me, and scheduling the work.  I did not obtain other quotes because I wanted to get the work done since I had already become exposed to some poison ivy and wanted to get rid of it immediately.  That is why I cannot speak to the price.  That said, I think that the price was fair.  Even though the project manager was on vacation, she made sure that the work was assigned and done.  I did not meet the crew that worked here during the day, but I will sing their praises here.  They did great work - very professional.  One of the days I came home to find that they even brought up my trash bin, which was just one of those nice things to find.  I would use this company again no problem.  They were easy to work with, completed the work in a professional and timely manner, leaving a happy customer.  I would certainly recommend Ed's Landscaping to others as well.

I contacted Ed's to provide a quote for a retaining wall in my back yard. The wall would be around 6 ft. tall and run about 16 or so feet. I forgot the persons name who came out but he was so very helpful. He explained the process of building the wall and the materials used.
What impressed me the most was they provided me a quote for the wall at various distances from the house and options of materials to save cost. This helped when deciding how far I wanted the wall away from the house and how much it would cost for each additional distance.
Although Ed's prices were good and on par with the other quotes I received, at this time I will be putting the project on hold. The cost is a bit more than I had expected for the work and I will need to hold off a bit.
If I do decide to scale down, come into some money or have another project to do in the future Ed's will be one of my first calls.
