"I worked with Matt, and was able to get an appointment set up to happen within a few days at a competitive rate. He inspected and cleaned the chimney well, and also noticed breaks in the fireplace/chimney that would possibly lead to severe damage if they weren't repaired before use -- even going so far as to recommend how I could fix it myself, or offering to do it separately if I wanted someone else to. He was skilled, polite, and cared about doing a good/thorough job even beyond the description of what he came to do. I really appreciate his help and they'll be my first phone call next time I need similar work done. Thanks!"

Customers say: Quick response

"Chimney USA was the right choice. I met Brett in our neighborhood one day doing a chimney repair. He was on another job and took time out to explain some things that I required regarding my chimney. He presented his card to me and I advised him he might be hearing from me. I called the office a few weeks later and scheduled an appointment with another gentleman and owner Matt. He also was very pleasant and easy to work with. Brett came out and installed a stainless steel chase cover, and cleaned the interior of the fireplace. He also repainted my fire box. After completion, everything looked brand new and was ready for this winter. He cleaned everything up with no issues. Brett displays a very professional manner about him. His skills, abilities, and knowledge far exceeded my expectations. If you want quality workmanship place a call to them. You will not be sorry. I might also add that Matt another technician came out prior to the original day Brett was here and gave me an estimate and inspected the interior. The prices were within reason and they offer a discount. After completion, Brett called upon another resident that I referred. Keep up the great work. Respectfully, Capt.D."

"I am very pleased with A and S Clean Sweep! I spoke with the owner Mr. Gonzales upon calling to set up my appt. and had no delays there. The young man Savis who cleaned and inspected my fireplace and chimney, was very knowledgeable and explained everything he found on the inspection. The panels inside my fireplace insert needed replacing due to age related cracks and deterioration. This presented a fire hazard if used in this condition. Once finished, my fireplace looked new again and I felt safer to use!"

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

The short answer is yes, as hearths need to extend a certain distance out from the fire. This is usually around at least a foot in front but is often more, closer to two feet even. There is another distance to consider, which is the distance beyond the opening of the fireplace. Each municipality will have different code requirements.

DIY is not recommended due to safety risks. Hire professionals for proper diagnosis and repair.

Beyond having an inspection, it’s important to do chimney maintenance at least annually to be certain the chimney is safe to use. Cleaning the flue of any built-up particles, creosote, and soot reduces the risk of fire. Fortunately, the cost of hiring a pro to do a chimney inspection often includes a chimney cleaning, so you may not have an extra expense for maintenance.

A chimney liner isn’t required for an outdoor fireplace; you don’t technically need one if the masonry chimney uses the proper dimensions and is built to code. However, a chimney liner does serve as a protective coating for the flue. Adding a liner could improve performance, safety, and durability. In short, while not necessary, it wouldn’t hurt.

Yes, you should seal and cap an unused chimney to protect it from damage. Sealing the structure helps prevent moisture damage, which can lead to issues like cracks, spalling, efflorescence, and damaged mortar joints. Capping the chimney is also crucial to prevent blockages, damage from invasive critters, and downdrafts, while still allowing for proper air ventilation to manage moisture. For the best results, consult a chimney professional to select the right type of chimney or flue cap for your home. It's also wise to continue with annual chimney inspections to maintain the structure's integrity.
