The product is not even very effective. I have watched them perform the service via my home security system while I have been away and the yard guard is a joke. They casually apply it around the perimeter of your home, but isn't it intended to guard your entire yard? This company is a joke. Never again."

Hands on owner, who does and oversees the majority of the work, at times employing sub-contractors to work with me on jobs requiring specialized licenses, major plumbing,electrical and HVAC. "The unskilled crew wrapping my house did $7,000 damage to my new standing-seam metal roof in the process of wrapping the wood trim on my 96-year-old farm house. The foreman spoke English, the rest of the crew did not. Workmanship was only so-so. This work was done in 2018. The crew insulating my garage used small-gauge staples, like you would use in an office, to put up the batts and fire retardant film. Many of the staples are falling out onto the floor. The fire retardant film sags and looks bad, and has numerous wrinkles and several holes. They should have used cap staples to put up the fire retardant film, but did not. The crew was semi-skilled at best. I am having to go back and shoot the film with cap staples myself to keep the film from falling down. Very disappointed in their workmanship."

Closed-cell spray foam insulation itself serves as a vapor barrier (or vapor retarder). However, you may need to install a vapor barrier if you have open-cell spray foam insulation. You don’t need to remove old insulation before adding new insulation. As long as the old insulation is still in good shape—not wet, physically damaged, or moldy—then you can stack new insulation on top of old insulation to get a compounding effect. You can also mix different types of insulation, like adding blown-in insulation around existing fiberglass batt insulation or installing rigid insulation boards over rafters in your attic that already have batt insulation installed. If your existing insulation is very old or damaged, though, you’ll likely see more benefit from removing it and replacing it instead.

The cost to rent an insulation vacuum ranges between $250 and $350 per day. The price will increase if you choose to rent for additional days, but you may get a discounted daily rate if you rent it for a whole week, which could cost up to $1,000. Once you've removed the insulation and are ready to replace it, the cost to rent a blown-in insulation machine ranges between $100 and $500.

For example, if you're building a house, then structural insulated panels are a worthy investment since they're easy to install during construction and they're the most energy-efficient type of insulation.  

Additionally, if you live in a very warm climate, then you can potentially save quite a bit of money by opting for reflective insulation, which is more affordable than comprehensive insulation but doesn't work well for cool climates.
