Specializing in injection of cracks in poured concrete foundation walls to prevent water intrusion and protect foundation and basement. Specialize in working with Realtors, Home Inspectors and Homeowners. MHIC # 93169. Free estimates via phone. Cost effective & permanent.

"Had a 5 foot long crack in my poured-concrete basement wall. It was not leaking, but I wanted to have it sealed regardless. Alek came on a Saturday, gave me his estimate, and then repaired the wall. He was very forthcoming by explaining that the repair was not absolutely necessary if there was no leakage, but I wanted it sealed anyway. He did a top rate job and I would not hesitate to use his services again."

"Had a great experience with Chris Kuper at Basement Detective! My basement flooded from non-stop storms and I needed a sump pump installed along with complete renovation of my basement. They were very competitive in pricing and outstanding in results. Chris even helped coordinate with the contractor doing my basement renovation after the sump was installed to make sure none of the drainage was disturbed by the new work being done. I have since weathered at least 3 large storms and can hear the sump working as needed. Very happy with the results!"

Our products deliver time and again, improving a home’s energy efficiency and increasing home values, curb appeal and sheer comfort. Our windows and gutter systems are custom manufactured, installed and serviced from our family owned and operated factory in Upper Marlboro, Maryland – eliminating costly and inefficient middle parties. We’re so sure you’ll love our products that we back everything up with our Thompson Creek No-Hassle Warranty and Buyer Protection Guarantee. At Thompson Creek, we’re your friends and neighbors. We’re proud of our history in the Mid-Atlantic region and proud to help our communities improve the comfort and conditions of their homes.

"No other way to put it. Install went fine. When I call, email, text for warranty service… run around at every turn. They say they will schedule right away for evaluation…didn’t happen. They say they will get it replaced right away…hasn’t happened. Regret after the sale. Xavier D and Alexis C are my two “contacts”. Unacceptable. Standing by for some ridiculous message about being sorry for the experience and to call some number that will fail to get a response. Also filing a BBB complaint."

Enterprise Contracting Services is a full service Fairfax remodeling firm. From day one, we have been providing exceptional customer service in residential remodeling through an experienced staff committed to each of our client's remodeling projects.

"The work is fine. We had two full baths remodeled. They began in late June and ended just after labor day. There were days and even weeks when no work was done at all. In fact one bathroom was demolished, and then sat for at least one week... There did not seem to be good communication among staff and each person who came to do work did not know what the other had done. One anecdote is that the electrician swore he had connected the light switch for a light in the laundry room. I was standing with the project manager and we were turning the switch on and off with no light going on while the electrician is on the phone at another job, swearing he had connected the light. The upshot of the whole fiasco was that it was not until I threatened writing to the BBB and online reviews that the owner got involved and then we were able to get to completion. Again - the work is ok. We have had to call on the 5 year warranty given to us a couple times to get small items repaired. But the lack of customer service and organization through the whole ordeal was not worth it."

"My gratitude for Residential Engineering Solutions (RES) is sky high. Matt Rudy was most kind, professional and thorough in getting to the bottom of my problem. Multiple interior cracks have slowly been growing in size along the same wall in my house on both the first and second floors. It turns out the southeast corner of the two-story addition added in October, 2013, has vulnerability to a downward gravitational pull mimicking the topography of the street I live on. There is a creek at the bottom of my street which sets up a gentle but persistent downward pull toward the creek. To stop the interior wall cracks from growing the foundation under this corner of the house needs re-enforcement. More importantly, RES has given me, in writing, proof that this problem has been identified and will be resolved (soon) before I put my house on the market, whenever that may happen. Finally, after Matt toured the interior and exterior of my house, I was reminded of one of my favorite all-time movies starring Tom Hanks and Shelly Long called The Money Pit. A classic laugh-out-loud movie from the 1980s based on home renovations that never end, working with inspectors and contractors. Matt and I shared a good laugh."

Structural Engineering questions, answered by experts

Absolutely, as it ensures designs are viable and won’t compromise structural integrity.

Yes, floor joists are essential structural components. They support the weight of floors and everything on them, transferring loads to the foundation and walls. Properly installed joists are necessary for maintaining strength, stability, and structural integrity.

Structural engineers are necessary for projects involving alterations to load-bearing structures, foundation work, and compliance with safety standards. This includes home expansions, retaining walls, and significant repairs that impact a property's integrity.

The 10 10 rule describes the formula most contractors use to determine how much to charge for a job. Allowing for 10% overhead above the total projected cost to do the work and 10% profit sets a contractor up for success, even if there are delays or other problems on the project. This formula isn’t a hard-and-fast rule, but it is a ballpark figure to begin with when estimating your expenses on a job.

Whether you’re building a new home or building an extension on your existing property, you will likely need both a structural engineer and an architect. A structural engineer will determine what loads your foundation and framing can safely handle, and an architect will draw plans according to those structural calculations to simplify the building process. You can start by contacting a structural engineer near you, as many work alongside architects and can get all of the prep work done at once.
