Entire experience was excellent. Spoke with Susan, who returned my voice message within one day. She provided me the pertinent details (cost, options, etc) on the phone and warned me of the conditions of the property (somewhat muddy) prior to my arrival. When I arrived, she measured the bed of my truck and gave me an estimate based on that measurement prior to start. Once price was agreed upon, I loaded up as much wood as I could (well-seasoned, freshly cut oak), paid her for the wood, and left. I filled the bed of a Nissan Frontier (about 1/2 cord) for $76. Very simple, upfront, and honest - a great experience and I will be returning next year! Some things to keep in mind: 1) They do not deliver; you will need to drive to them and know what space within your car, SUV, truck, or whatever you want to load. They will measure that space and charge you by the cubic foot - it comes out to about $180 per cord of wood which I found to be extremely reasonable. 2) They will not load the wood for you; make sure you wear long sleeves and bring a set of work gloves (though Susan offered to let me use a set). An extra set of hands can be helpful, too, if you're filling more than a car trunk. 3) The wood yard is no more than the backyard of a house; it is not a marked business per se and I drove by it once before tentatively pulling into the driveway. 4) Cash only! Bottom line: Though they don't deliver, you probably can't do much better in terms of price and quality in the D.C. area. Take the time to drive out there from the city and enjoy the fresh air and a little bit of exercise.
