"Matthew Conde was a delight to have service our gas fireplace. He was personable, he obviously knew how to detect any issues with the 27-year old fireplace, he treated the job as if it were in his own home and he obviously loved what he was doing. I have complete confidence that we can continue to use the fireplace with a no-worry enjoyment and the fireplace looked like new! I would definitely recommend Matt and his company with the highest rating."

Small jobs welcome

"We have used Wammoth Services for several years now and always had a wonderful experience. I have personally had dealings with Bill, Stacy and Ryan, each one of this is professional, honest, dependable and most of all they appreciate their customers. I had a moment recently where I thought I was going to be disappointed in a "warranty" issue but was I ever wrong. After misunderstanding and email from Stacy she followed up with a phone call to clarify their policy and make sure that I knew exactly what she meant. Bill was here within a few days and was early, respectful, efficient and very professional. The faulty part was replaced and our fireplace is fully operational and our faith in small business restored. We will continue to use Wammoth and only Wammoth for all our fireplace needs. Highly recommend."

"Al was fantastic! He clearly explained that my fireplace was shutting off as a safety feature due to low oxygen levels. He also reassembled the logs in the firebox and showed me the proper way to start and stop the fireplace. Highly recommend his service!"

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

You should only use water to put out a fire in your fireplace in an emergency situation. Even then, it is better to use a fire extinguisher to put out a fire quickly. Make sure every room in your house that has a fireplace also has a fire extinguisher—and that everyone in your household knows how to use one.

You can let a fire burn out in a fireplace as long as you or someone else will stick around to monitor it until it goes completely out. This may take several hours. To prepare, stop adding fuel to the fire well before you’re ready to call it a night. If you’re using the fireplace for warmth, you’ll want to cover up in some blankets as the flame dies down.

Yes, you should seal and cap an unused chimney to protect it from damage. Sealing the structure helps prevent moisture damage, which can lead to issues like cracks, spalling, efflorescence, and damaged mortar joints. Capping the chimney is also crucial to prevent blockages, damage from invasive critters, and downdrafts, while still allowing for proper air ventilation to manage moisture. For the best results, consult a chimney professional to select the right type of chimney or flue cap for your home. It's also wise to continue with annual chimney inspections to maintain the structure's integrity.

No, not all chimneys need a damper. However, most chimneys do, especially in newer homes. Most gas-burning fireplaces cannot function safely without a damper. Only some older wood-burning fireplaces can function safely without one. A chimney without a damper is essentially just an open hole in the roof of your home.

Like any other household appliance, electric fireplaces can wear out after about 10 to 20 years. With more frequent use, the parts will wear out quicker, and you may get just 7 to 10 years out of a well-loved electric fireplace. Fortunately, electric fireplaces come with a lower upfront installation cost compared to alternatives like gas, so you can install a replacement for less.
