Customers say: True professional

"We have a slight hill at the end of our gravel driveway, which washed out pretty badly during the recent hurricane rains. I was looking for someone to repair this, and get us another year out of the gravel driveway before we have it paved. I called three different companies, and Bill Cooper was the one who gave me the best explanation of what needed to be done. He wasn't trying to push me towards an expensive new driveway, but rather gave me options to do it right. In the end, we covered the loose gravel with a milling base, which looks better and sets me up to pave the driveway in a year or so, when it has appropriately settled. I think Bill really knows his stuff, and I'm very happy with the way things turned out."

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

In Manassas, hidden costs for asphalt paving can include permit application fees, additional site preparation for unstable soil, and installing drainage solutions to prevent water damage. Weather delays may impact project timelines, especially during wet or cold months. Unexpected issues like unmarked utility lines or the need for driveway resurfacing can also arise, so working with experienced local contractors helps minimize surprises.

Helpful?

In Manassas, steep driveways, limited access for equipment, or close proximity to your home’s foundation can complicate asphalt paving projects. Properties with multiple elevation changes, mature landscaping, or retaining walls may require custom grading or drainage solutions. If your driveway layout is curved or crosses over utility lines, extra planning is needed to ensure proper pavement maintenance and long-term durability.

Helpful?

In Manassas, the driveway apron where it meets the street often needs work first due to stress from turning vehicles. Low-lying spots are also vulnerable because of the area's clay soil, which can lead to water pooling and base damage. North-facing surfaces that get less sun are prone to more freeze-thaw damage, and areas under large trees may suffer from root heaving over time.

Helpful?

In Manassas, VA, be cautious of contractors who show up unsolicited, especially after storms, or pressure you to sign immediately. A major red flag is a demand for full payment upfront, as state law limits initial payments. Also, avoid any professional who won't provide a detailed written contract or local references from recent projects in the Prince William County area. These signs often point to corner-cutting.

Helpful?

You can safely manage minor asphalt issues in VA by sealing cracks smaller than a quarter-inch with a rubberized filler during warm weather. For small potholes, a cold patch compound from a home improvement store is an effective temporary fix. Regular cleaning and applying a sealcoat every two to three years also helps. However, for large cracks, drainage problems, or any signs of base failure, call a professional.
