"The whole process went extremely well! Things were efficiently scheduled, Tony Tan is experience in electrical, painting, flooring, appliance installation (including gas appliances), total quality was found in Tony Tans trades and co-workers. The whole kitchen came out beautifully! I am now in my 60's, and I have to say that Tony Tan, the owner, is the most honest, hardworking contractor I have ever used--and I have owned over 10 houses. He also never forgets a customer and their importance to him. This is one contractor you can count on, ALWAYS!"

"This contractor was professional and was very detailed with his work. I was so happy to find him, especially when I had such a bad experience with another contractor that I had gotten of Angie's list. He was able to fix the work this guy had done and for a reasonable price. I just with I had hired him from the beginning. I usually do not write comments, but really wanted to let this guy know how much he helped me with making my house beautiful.

"Of all the contractors I've had do work on my home in the past 16 yr., A. W. Masonry & Restoration is one of the very best. Mr. Williams is very professional, responsive, courteous and competent. His brick layer has 38 yr. of experience, as I recall, and has managed very large construction jobs in the past. The crew were punctual and very easy to work with; e.g., they were generous in determining how much of the old mortar to replace. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this contractor to others."

"They did an excellent job. From the beginning, they let me know exactly what they were going to be doing and they did exactly what they said they were going to do. There were no surprises and they were very professional. They kept in constant contact throughout the project. At the end of the project they cleaned up and were very efficient.  We will definitely use them again for more projects around the house.  They definitely deserve an A rating.

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Begin by analyzing the blueprints and gathering the proper materials before framing a house. With the prep stages behind you, begin by framing the floor of a house on the newly set foundation. Exterior and interior walls come next, along with rough openings for doors and windows. Contractors will then add ceiling and roof rafters to finish things off.

When building a house, it is customary to use 16d nails that measure 3 1/2 inches in length to construct the frame. These nails are crucial in providing the necessary support and stability for structural elements like joists and studs, which ensures a sturdy framework.

Modern brick houses are really stick-built homes with a brick facade for aesthetic purposes only, so most have framing. With genuine brick construction, most homeowners install furring strips over the interior of the brick and then install drywall over those strips to cover the brick wall, so they don’t have traditional framing.

Using a steel frame may raise the value of your home. Steel is more heat resistant, has better longevity, and doesn’t need any upkeep compared to traditional wood. You can also customize a steel build a little easier than other materials like brick, concrete, and vinyl—which have trouble bending and adapting to renovations.

A few signs that you need a new door frame include:

  • The door no longer fits properly in its frame and sticks or scrapes.

  • You notice cracks, holes, or rotting.

  • You feel a draft coming from around the door when it’s closed.

  • You find yourself frequently needing to make repairs.
