"Snell installed a new air handler and condenser for me. It was an improvement over what I had, but performance didn’t match what was promised. To their credit, they were super responsive, tried to troubleshoot the issue, and ultimately gave a partial refund to make up for overpromising results from this big investment in a new system. Because of the classy way they handled everything, I’d recommend them."

"I used them back in 2015 and was impressed with them. So I decided to use them again. I was quoted an hours worth of work. Then, when it came to the final bill, was charged for two hours worth of work, and this was with 2 men working the job. They were just replacing 3 pendant lights and 1 dining room light. So I was surprised and disappointed that it took that long. More importantly, one of the workers said something inappropriate to me. It made me feel very uncomfortable and afraid. So I called the owner to tell him what happened. He said he would speak to him. I felt like the owner could have taken me more seriously, been more sympathetic and apologetic about it. He made it sound like he was almost defending him. *** Update on this: The owner did speak with his crew member and said there was a misunderstanding of what he said and apologized for it. However, I know what I heard. Even to the end, it seemed like the owner was still defending him. Either way, I won't be using them again after my experience."

"I had them in for a second opinion on what could be done to fix my air conditioner. The contractor I had before did not tell me the exact reason for the problem nor tell me he could fix it. They suggested the HVAC system be replaced. Parish immediately told me the problem and what could be done to fix my air conditioner. My System most likely will need to be replaced in a year or so and I was given estimates within a very short period of time that we’re very detailed. I had a great experience with them."

"Had 2 new ceiling fan drops as well as 7 new can lights installed. All work was done in finished spaces and the end product looks like it was original to construction. Justin provided some suggestions during the estimate that we never thought of and ended up doing. He and his team were very professional, clean and timely. We have already had him come back for additional projects. If you need electrical work done I highly recommend."

"I've had Absolute Electric to my home several times for jobs that I needed to have done. Will is great to work with. For my first project he installed an attic fan and on a second trip, he installed a whole house surge protector and weather proof outlets on the exterior of my home. He's very easy to work with, he cleans up behind his work and he consulted me on each project along to way to ensure that I was happy. I have a few more projects for Absolute and look forward to working with them again very soon."

"I had a very good experience with Reddick & Sons from beginning to end. I contacted them via Angie's List about a quote for recessed lighting and they got back to me right away. They sent a representative out to see the work we wanted done. We wanted recessed lights put up in 3 rooms. I initially told them that I wanted 4 lights in each room. However, when the representative came out, he told my husband that we really only needed 2 lights rather than 4 in two of the rooms. I appreciate the fact that they made a recommendation that saved us some money, even though it meant they would not make as much on the job! The person who came to do the job showed up on time, was friendly and professional. I showed him the rooms and he got straight to work. He did a great job. We were very pleased with the final product. I would not hesitate to call on this company again."

"We needed to replace our bedroom ceiling fan.  There was a discount in Angies List for All American Electric.  The coupon was for labor only - they would not provide the new fan nor haul away the old.  We bought the new fan ourselves at Lowe's.  American Electric was very easy to work with.  We called them, set up a time on a Saturday, they showed up on time and did the job in about an hour and a half.  The knew what they were doing and were very polite and kept us informed as they worked.  They put down drop cloths, cleaned up after themselves, and the new fan worked with no problems.   They did not take the old fan, so we took it to a Habitat for Humanity re-sale store in Manassas VA.  Overall, we were very satisfies with the experience.

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

Many ceiling fan-rated electrical boxes tend to be made of metal. However, some electrical boxes may also be made of heavy-duty plastic that is reinforced with metal support structures. It may also have an attachment that connects directly to a ceiling joist. If you are ever ensure, consult with a licensed professional to get their insight on best practices and whether the installation is a safe one.

Generally, a ceiling fan should be mounted at least seven feet from the floor in the center of your room with a wall clearance of around 18 inches. If your ceiling is more than eight feet high, it’s recommended by experts that the ceiling fan be mounted around eight to nine feet from the ground. This helps ensure a better quality of circulated airflow.

Identifying the source of noises is your first step to soundproofing a room without overspending. Generally, sound comes from inside or outside of the house. Inside noises include creaking floors, living noises like TVs in the living room, cooking sounds, or kids being kids. External noises generally include incremental weather, disturbing neighbors, and street traffic. Inside noises require you to soundproof floors, ceilings, and doors, whereas outside noises may require you to soundproof your attic, windows, and walls facing the streets.

If you’re removing a ceiling fan without visible screws, start by locating the fan canopy—a round cover placed above the fan blades and motor. There should be a thin ring that can be turned counterclockwise to remove the canopy and reveal the screws. After unscrewing the fan, you can disconnect the wires and remove the entire fan from the mounting hardware. For safety, make sure the fan switch is turned off before you remove the canopy. It may be easier to remove the fan blades first, too.

Hiring an electrician to install a new ceiling fan may be the best course of action. Installing a ceiling fan requires basic electrical and mechanical knowledge. It also requires holding it up with one hand and in an awkward position, making the installation even more difficult. If you’re uncomfortable with these circumstances, your best bet is to hire a professional.
