"We had a *perfect* experience with Click Construction. We're finishing our basement and doing most of the work ourselves, but decided to get professional help with the drywall installation. I expected that we might have trouble finding a contractor, but Alan got back to us immediately. Initially, he estimated that it would be about three weeks before he could start the job, but then he called back the next day to say that if we could get the paperwork done, he could have a team available in just a couple of days. I think I initially contacted him on Monday, and the team started work on Thursday. They were done a week later. It was a pleasure to work with them. They were friendly and professional. And the work they did is perfect! I'm really picky, but there's nothing to be picky about. Everything is straight, smooth, and crisp. They drywalled a sitting room, bedroom, walk-in closet, and bathroom. The whole area looks amazing! We just installed a floating floor this weekend, which can be a real PITB if things aren't straight, but we had no problems. At one point, we were joining the flooring sections between the sitting room, bedroom, and closet. All three pieces needed to join to a single row of flooring that connected them on one side. The tolerance has to be perfect, or the seams won't snap together. It was accurate to less than 1/16th of an inch. *That* is quality construction. On top of that, you can trust them. We were scheduled to pay for the job in three installments: one third when the contract was signed, another third when the taping was completed, and the final third when the job was done. Alan picked up the first payment the day the guys started work. Then he came by again on Day 5. It was obvious that the job was nearing completion. They just had to sand the skim coat (basically the detail work that makes everything look right) and clean up. I decided to just write a check for the full amount. Now, I know you're not supposed to pay for the job until it's completed--and I had been burned years ago when I did exactly that with a different contractor (who then never finished the job and proved to be unreachable), but it seemed like an unnecessary bother to drag Alan out to our house again in a couple of days to pick up the third payment. He assured me that his guys would be back the following day to finish the job and then the day after that to clean everything up. And he was as good as his word. The team did exactly what he said they would do. You can't go wrong with trustworthy, skilled, friendly, professional people like this. Thanks, Alan, and please thank the rest of the crew for us too. We truly enjoyed your help and expertise."

"It took me over a year to find a company to remove a wall and remodel my kitchen. I was very pleased with DiJulio Contracting. I wanted to have a wall taken down in the kitchen in my townhouse to create some more space and open things up. This company was very affordable, and were able to start the job and complete the kitchen remodel promptly, as time was very critical in this instance for me. Their crews were all very friendly and professional and Scott was easy to communicate with throughout the process. I will keep them in mind for any home remodeling projects and will recommend 100%. Well done!"

"Excellent service. My project started with a kitchen remodel, and when I saw how professional the team was and the outstanding and the meticulous work, I asked them to help with other projects. So I had them do a partial basement remodel, and then repairs to the outside steps. More work coming your way LFC. THANK YOU!"

"It was ok, although when I contacted Two By Four Construction to schedule the work, I was told to contact the subcontractor directly to work out the best time for the work to be done. The subcontractor who did the work was fine, although the night before the work was to be done, he notified me that he wouldn't be able to start the next day because of work he needed to do for other customers. We rescheduled it for several days later. When I called the day before to confirm that he would arrive the next day (a Friday) he said that he was unable to arrive on Friday (a rush job for a builder) and might not be able to start the following day because getting workers to help on Saturday would be very difficult (it's a three-day job). That was unacceptable so I pressed him and he was ultimately able to get some workers here on Saturday. He finished the job himself on Sunday and Monday and the refinished wood looks ok. He did not charge me for staining and installing the floor molding (which I had purchased) because of the scheduling problems, so all in all it worked out ok, but I would have much preferred to have had the job done when originally scheduled."

"Jose and his team did great job on our basement remodeling project. We created new home office in our basement, installed engineered wood floor, and also painted our garage floor. Their work is efficient and professional. And Jose is a honest guy on pricing estimate. We highly recommend him for house remolding project."

"Our large unfinished basement was full of a few worthy items but mostly junk. Over the years I had always said we should have it finished for my own children, but never did. But as my grandsons grew older, I as a widower wanted a space for them to watch TV, have friends over and play games such as air hockey and pool. This was my selfish way of having them come over to my house. After having most junk removed, and reading countless review of contractors on Angi, I selected All Renovations. I wanted a TV viewing area on the smaller side and a game room on the other side with a half bath. The estimate was very fair. These guys know what they are doing and took charge, sometimes working late into the night. I worried probably too much about the small stuff. Ainea and his crew, Daniel, Robert and others showed up on time and closely followed the terms of the contract. As we went along, they made adjustments and improvements either I recommended or they did. They can do practically anything within reason. This flexibility helped lower my blood pressure and they earned my full respect and confidence. The basement is beautiful and am very glad I chose All Renovations! SAC"

Basement Remodel questions, answered by experts

Yes, most general contractors require an initial down payment, typically between 10% and 25% of the total project cost. This upfront payment helps cover the costs of materials, permits, and subcontractors. The remaining project costs are usually billed after specific project milestones are reached or on set completion dates, as outlined in your contract. Be wary of contractors who require a significant deposit of 50% or more upfront, as this could be a red flag for a scam.

If you have the woodworking experience to build a bar from scratch and you have the time, DIYing the work is a no-brainer and can save a few thousand dollars. However, if you’re looking to include a sink, additional lighting fixtures, or high-end bar tops and cabinets, it’s usually a better idea to call in a pro. It will cost more, but the finished product will likely be worth it.

A walkout basement is considered to be partially below grade because at least one wall is entirely exposed. In some cases and in specific municipalities, inspectors and appraisers will still count walkout basements as below grade, which means the space can’t serve as living space or be rented out. If you intend on using the area as living space or a separate apartment, you should check with your local building department to make sure it’s legal to do so.

Yes, you can install a summer kitchen or kitchenette in your basement. They serve similar purposes as outdoor kitchens, keeping the main floor of the house cool and providing another space to cook and congregate. Basement kitchens are also a worthwhile alternative for homeowners without much space in the backyard. They come with a few logistical questions to sort out, though, like ventilation and waterproofing.

Building a bar in the basement will likely add value to your home, although it’s unlikely that you’ll see a significant return on investment (ROI) unless you plan on using the space for you and your guests. If you think you’ll use the area frequently, though, it’s probably worth the investment, and you should see a bump in value if or when you sell your property.
