I worked on this project all summer before I let the contract. WHAT TO BUY? First off, How efficient should you buy? If you read the advertisements, you should buy the highest SEER-rated system and then it will be so efficient the power company will send you a check each month from all the savings the new system generates. Yeah, right. Thankfully, the power company serving my Florida home is REALLY helpful and prepared actual cost savings for all SEER ratings. http://www.fpl.com/residential/energy_saving/pdf/r170_res_ac_buying_guide.pdf Download it fast, after you see HOW LITTLE high SEER-rated heat pumps save in electricity costs and compare it to the cost difference for the high SEER units, you too will see that payback in cost savings will take longer than any unit is rated to last (10 years.) So I suspect the Air conditioner manufacturers are going to make FPL take down this guide, after all, they want to sell the fluff and bells and whistles at high prices. But to cut to the chase, buy the lowest SEER rated (currently SEER 13) heat pump from a quality manufacturer (I've run Carrier since 1965) and you will get 98% of the current efficiency available at MAXIMUM cost savings. Also, the newer high efficiency units require electronic technology to make the systems operate more efficiently, and quite frankly, the parts that are going to break on the new tech systems are the circuit boards and other electronic gizmos. The outside compressor and air handler motors are going to go the distance on both the cheap quality-manufacturer systems and the most expensive systems. WHERE TO BUY IT? Buy quality, cheaply. Carrier, Trane, Lennox are all high quality manufacturers with dealers serving the Roanoke Valley. You can read the "daily nickle saver" tabloids and find cut-rate systems; but if you really read the online complaints, you will learn that most problems come from shoddy workmanship on the installations. That is where Cundiff really shows it's star quality. A senior member of the Cundiff team will come to your house to give you the estimate. A senior installation expert will then come out to review your entire system, including ductwork, suggest improvements to the existing installation if any and finalize the install. The team that comes to install you system is first rate, professional, helpful, and keeps the worksite (and your home both inside and out) clean and free of debris. It is a major undertaking to reinstall your heating and cooling system, and Cundiff makes it painless. FINAL THOUGHTS You got this beautiful new energy-efficient heat pump system installed. The first time you cut on the heat, you smell the unforgettable smell of electric resistance heating coils firing up! What in the world is going on!!!! you bought this system to get away from the sky high cost of electric resistance heating. You question the technician and learn that heat pump manufacturers are very sensitive to the fact that heat pumps blow ("cold") air. It really isn't cold, it is 91 degrees Fahrenheit and it just feels cold because body temp is 98 degrees. So, to fool customers, they have the electric resistance coils come on to make the air feel warm when the system first cuts on. The electric coil heat eventually cuts off when the house gets up to desired temp, but better (cheaper) for you to tell the tech to program the thermostat to make sure the coils DON"T cut on unless the house is really cold (4-5 degrees below desired temp) Also a programmable thermostat is INEFFICIENT for a heat pump system. Better to let the system get up to desired temp and stay there, the heat pump will run much less than if it is trying to vary the temp by several degrees every day. Thats about it. Cundiff was simply the cheapest bid of quality heat pump manufacturer's equipment installed in professional manner, of all the bids I requested. They also have an outstanding maintenance service team with prompt first responders if a problem occurs in the out years. I am pleased to recommend them for your consideration "},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/va/roanoke/cundiff-heating-and-air-conditioning-inc-reviews-5608630.htm"},"position":3},{"@type":"ListItem","item":{"@type":"LocalBusiness","name":"Southwest Outdoor Power Equipment","address":{"@type":"PostalAddress","addressRegion":"VA","addressCountry":"US"},"review":{"@type":"Review","author":{"@type":"Person","name":"D B."},"reviewBody":"I bought a Hustler sport from this dealership last year. The mower is still under warranty and 2 weeks ago, the engine starting blowing white smoke when the blades were engaged, there was also a small oil leak around the head gasket. I called and spoke with the mechanic at the dealership and he advised that he would need to replace the head gasket. I live approx. 1 1/2 away from the dealership, I took the mower to the dealership and asked the mechanic to also service the mower, i.e. change oil & filter, replace blades, change air and fuel filter. I dropped the mower off on Monday 9/4. My brother in law picked up the mower on Saturday 9/14/13 after I received a call from the mechanic stating the mower was fixed. The total bill was $180.00. I started the mower today, 9/17/13 and engaged the blades, the engine immediately began to blow white smoke and cut out. I called the mechanic and told him what was going on and he said that he had service the mower and changed the oil filter, but had not fixed the head gasket because he was wanted to save me the trouble. The mower is still under warranty and there would have been no cost to me to fix the head gasket, therefore no trouble for me. The mechanic wanted to save himself the trouble and the dealership the cost. I now have to take the mower back so the mechanic can fix what he was supposed to fix in the first place. I would never recommend this dealership or the repair shop. My father had a similar experience when he took his chainsaw to Southwest Outdoor Power Equipment. The mechanic was supposed to put a carberator kit in his chainsaw and charged him as if he had. When the chainsaw still did not work, my father took it to another local dealership and the mechanic advised the carberator had never been removed and a new kit had not been put in the chainsaw. "Star City HVAC was fantastic from start to finish. They responded quickly, explained everything clearly, and were incredibly friendly throughout the entire process. I had a gas system installed previously, but due to some home renovations, we needed to extend the gas line. Their team came out promptly and handled the job efficiently and professionally. In addition, they notified me of a water leak I wasn’t aware of so I could plan to care of it. I appreciate them going above and beyond. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to anyone looking for a reliable HVAC service."

"I was looking for someone to look at my furnace and give me an estimate. Josh Floyd and Floyd's 4 all Seasons was the first name on the list I called him with some general questions and within minutes he was at my door. He told me the problem was the thermostat and went to the truck and brought in another he claimed was new. He then told us the amount we owed him was 159 for showing up and 150 for thermostat. After 3 days thermostat quit working. I never got a receipt or estimate to my email. When I finally reached Mr. Floyd (not answer phone) he said he would send another which was not received . I told him I was not happy with his work and wanted a refund. He wanted to argue the fact that I never saw him take new thermostat from a box or packaging. I want my 300 back."

FAQs for heating oil service projects in Goodview, VA
To buy heating oil for your house, contact local heating oil companies to compare prices and place an order once you decide on a supplier. The company will have to deliver your heating oil in a truck designed to carry and dispense heating oil safely. Call and order your heating oil early enough to have your oil delivered before you need to start using it for home heating.
On average, you’ll need about two gallons of oil per day to heat your house when it’s 50 degrees Fahrenheit outside. Most oil tank capacity is about 275 gallons, and heating your house with two gallons of oil per day will last about four and a half months. This consumption will vary depending on the climate and average temperature in your location. For example, if the winters are longer and colder where you live, you’ll probably need to refill your oil tank at least once to get through the winter.
You save money on heating oil in a few ways:
Make sure your home is well insulated and sealed against drafts and heat leakage.
Use a thermostat that’s working properly and calibrated accurately.
Program your thermostat to lower the heat when you’re not home.
Order heating oil during the off-season when prices are likely to be lower.
Summer months tend to be when heating oil prices are lowest because of decreased demand. Buying heating oil during the off-season also prepares you for when the weather gets cold, and you need to start using the oil to heat your home. Although heating oil prices will fluctuate, it’s best to avoid purchasing between September and April, as that's the peak season for heating oil demand.
Overall, heating your home with an oil furnace tends to be less expensive than heating your home with an electric heating system. Oil heating systems stay warm for longer periods of time without drawing a constant electrical current to maintain a temperature. Plus, heating oil systems typically have a longer lifespan and lower price tag than their electrical counterparts, resulting in short- and long-term savings.
