W. C. Butler Heating and Air Conditioning was founded by Chester Butler 30 years ago during his 27 year tenure with Roanoke Gas Company. In 1989 Mr. Butler left Roanoke Gas Company to pursue his full time business. W. C. Butler Heating and Air Conditioning services ALL brands of heating and cooling equipment. Today, W. C. Butler has over 30 employees and does primarily residential heating and air conditioning with some light commercial work. W. C. Butler buys York, Ruud, and Mitsubishi products from local distributor, Virginia Air Distributors, a very customer oriented distributor with outstanding customer service. Called and immediately got to a dispatcher that scheduled me for first available appointment two days out. Tech arrived on time and quickly diagnosed failed capacitor. He went the extra mile to call the manufacturer to find the part was under warranty which saved me 50% on part. I asked if I should proactively replace capacitor on other unit and he said no, there is no way to predict when they will go out. That meant to me they are not into pushing unnecessary repairs, which is great. Good overall experience.

They were unable to repair existing furnace after a week of calls. So I ordered a new furnace. The young men were proud of how quickly it was installed and It failed within one week. It was then re-installed by two competent mature men. It is running OK now but the area was left looking messy and the installation appeared sloppy.. Would I hire again? Maybe yes; maybe no. Technician Chris would be the only plus among the people I dealt with. Good man.

The tech (Jessie) did a great job. He was on time and completed the job at the time he said he would. He would very polite and professional. If I needed this type service in the future I will request Jessie and Butler to do the work.

I received excellent customer service during my service call about an old leaking air intake unit. The manager, Chet, whom I spoke to and made the appointment with, was very sweet and quick to get someone over to fix the issue. The man who came to do the service call was sweet, professional, and took the time to show me what was wrong and teach me how to unclog the pipe and prevent it from happening again in the future (which will save me money)! I will definitely be using W.C. Butler for any heating/air needs I may have in the future.

A very small gas leak developed around the valve shaft on my gas fireplace. I called Butler to fix what I considered a very minor problem. They arrived on time and were professional in using booties, etc. We quickly detected that there was small leak past the valve packing and that the packing nut simply needed to be tightened to fix it. They said that they were not the gas experts and didn't have the tools to fix it on this visit. I pushed them to fix it anyway, using my own tools. I did some of the work and this was fixed on the first visit. I got the impression that Butler would have billed me for a 2nd visit if I had not completed this simple job for them. I'll give them the benefit of doubt but I don't appreciate being gouged for simple repair jobs.

On 5-17-16 WC Butler replaced the blower motor (approx. $600 for the motor) in my air handler, I contacted them serval times after that about the motor being the wrong one, It moved too much air for my size unit and also shook the floor anytime it was on like crazy. It moved so much air that it would create such a negative air pressure that it sucked in the smoke smell from my neighbors chimneys. They never responded. On 12-30-17 the motor finally died from being the wrong size for the house as well as it was it turned out to be a generic universal replacement (US Motors) unit that was not made well, this motor they charged me $600 for costs about $85. I had WC come back for emergency after hours when it went out, they did not have one to replace it. They said for $500 they could get me the same motor again, I asked about the warranty on the one they put in (it was only 1.5 years) the technician actually told me I would have to contact the manufacture for that motor they installed. Anyway, I did not do business with WC Butler again. I paid their $100 service fee and went with another company who not only did it for much much less, but also installed a genuine Goodman part that comes with a 3yr warranty rather than a knock off part. WC Butler may have gotten more money out of me in the short term but in the long term, they have not. They do not stand behind their work, they are not honest, and are a rip off. I will never do business with WC Butler again, and at some point, I will need my HVAC unit replaced, and I can say it will not be with WC Butler – it will be with an honest company.

We respond by confirming that we were called out to perform service on 5-12-16 when our technician diagnosed a bad blower motor on a 1996 Goodman gas furnace. Technician also noted that coil would need cleaning as well. Technician returned on 5-17-16 and replaced the blower motor, blower wheel, capacitor and cleaned the evaporator coil as well all for $662.00. The replacement parts were all OEM parts purchased from East Coast Metal Distributors our local "Goodman" distributor. We purchased a B13400-313 Motor, CAP050000370VAS Capacitor and a B13680-42S Blower Wheel. Invoice # 9928453 dated 5-16-16 with the customer PO# 7865-*****. A copy of this invoice is available upon request. The only calls from the customer on record are the calls on 5-12-16, 5-17-16 and 12-31-17. The customer did leave a request on our website contact page on 12-27-17 which is quoted below. Name: ***** ******** Phone: *** *** **** Email: ****************gmail.com Message: Hi, I had you guys do a cleaning of my evaportator and replace my blower motor in my HVAC a while back, the new motor is much faster than the old one, I've tried everything I can think of to seal up more, foil tape and mastic around vents, sealing the house better etc. But it's still causing my house to be filled with a smoke smell from the neighbors outdoor stove, which it didn't do before. I believe it might just be from too much negative air pressure, is it possible to slow the blower down a lot? and if so how much would this cost? Our Service Coordinator called and left a message on 12-28-17 but did not receive a return call from the customer. Our service technician installed the factory specified replacement parts on 5-17-16 which come from the factory with a "1-year warranty". This is the industry standard for replacement parts for equipment with an expired original parts warranty not a "3-year warranty". I also confirmed this last night with our Goodman territory manager. As far as the claim that the motor created a negative pressure so great that it sucked smoke from the neighbor's home - There is nothing that would substantiate this theory other than leaving doors and windows open. I can't address what happened with the original replacement motor and I would have preferred that our technician on 12-31-17 had handled the quote differently especially since the motor was a year and a half old. A simple call to the office with a request to speak to a manager or the owner would have made all this very unnecessary. It seems very obvious that a lot of misleading and false information has been relayed to the customer by someone. With all this being said, we will be glad to make this right with the customer. We are all human and can make mistakes but we always strive to do all we can to meet our customer's expectations both expeditiously and fairly."

Could not have been better in every way. Professional, courteous, punctual, neat, clean, The equipment installation looks like a 'sculpture' (in the attic). Outdoor heat pump installed on a new mount and ground leveled by the installer. They even credited the price for a new pan (attic) that the installer said our old one was very good and did not need to be replaced. Butler did all the warranty registration and mailed the documents to us. 10/10/10 parts, labor, pump.

They had actually gave an estimate, and they were under the estimate. Instead of charging what they could have charged, they charged at the better price. They actually worked at the end. The guy came a couple days ago, and what they thought they thought they would be able to. They said they would be there at 7:30, and they were there at 7:20. They were great. I thought that they did a really great job. They were neat, they were courteous, they cleaned up after themselves. They did a great job. Two workers that was extremely nice and knowledgeable.

It went great! The technician's were prompt and courteous. We had our Spring and Fall Maintenance done as a package (Great deal by the way) and our heat pump did not seem to be working quite right. The technician thought at first that our unit went out. Generally, most companies wouldn't even bother to further look in to the problem, they would just tell you that you need a new unit and screw you on the money. Not this guy, he did a great job and found a simple problem that only costs us a little bit of extra money to fix. I will always call WC Butler for my heat and air now. Very happy new customer!
