"I've used him three times and my family has used him as well. I had a leaky skylight, he fixed that right up. He wasn't the lowest bid but was in the middle. But since I've used him before I trusted him and he knew exactly what he was doing. He also built a very large slotted room and installed two skylights in that. And finally about 10yrs ago he extended my deck. and cut out for a sunken hot tub. I am very pleased with his work and recommended him to everyone I can."

"Robert & his team completed many updates on a condo I bought sight-unseen; his craftsmanship & attention to detail are incredible. He primed all my walls, laid new LVP flooring & carpeting, hung 2 ceiling fans & completely recreated the lights in my bathroom, created a beautiful feature wall in my living room, & fixed many problems I didnâ t even know were problems. His knowledge and workmanship are outstanding; as long as Iâ m in Virginia, Iâ ll go back to Robert when I need work done on my home."

"Excellent! We had contacted Anderson since they installed the doors and track in the first place - and they couldn't come up with a way to repair the track. We contacted Powerhouse and Tommy researched the problem and came up with a solution. Richard, the person who did the repair, was personable, polite, pleasant - a true asset to the company. he repaired the track in about an hour - did an excellent job. We are VERY pleased with the service we received from Powerhouse!!"

"After the repair was done I noticed a leak in my bathroom ceiling where one of the roof vents were replaced. I called the Subcontractor Brian on a Saturday morning. The weather was cold and raining. He was at my house within the hour up on the roof and fixed the leak. I havent had any leaks since. I would hire Brain the Subcontractor again."

"Purchased a deal off of Angie's list for 3 hours of drywall service. Steve came in and repaired the drywall where I had a busted pipe in wall replaced. He also patched three small drywall holes left from previous owner.  Steve did a superior job and I would use again in the future.

Deck Repair questions, answered by experts

Yes, it is possible to add an under-deck drainage system to an existing deck by retrofitting it to the structure. This process may require some prep work. For example, many drainage systems are installed on top of the deck joists, which would require you to remove the decking boards and railings first. To avoid this, you could opt for a below-the-joist drainage system. For best results and to ensure proper installation, it is recommended to consult a professional. A pro can inspect your deck, make any necessary repairs, and then install the drainage system correctly.

Yes, deck pier blocks can be used as an alternative to traditional deck footings, especially for smaller or low-to-the-ground decks. Unlike poured concrete and buried post footings, deck blocks do not require digging or pouring. However, their use is dependent on local building codes. Some areas, particularly those prone to high winds, earthquakes, or hurricanes, may not permit the use of deck pier blocks. It is essential to consult your local building codes before choosing them for your deck project.

That depends on the condition of your deck. An older deck that looks drab, worn, or has multiple damaged boards might be worth replacing before selling. However, if your deck is in good condition, you can simply clean, repaint, or stain it.

Yes, adding a composite deck, such as one made from Trex, can significantly increase your home's value. It is a valuable home renovation for recouping costs, with some estimates for return on investment (ROI) ranging between 60% and 70%. More recently, Remodeling's 2024 Cost vs. Value Report suggests a deck addition has an ROI of 82.9%, with an average resale value of nearly $14,600. A new deck makes your yard more functional, enhances the landscape's aesthetic, and can entice prospective buyers. The investment may have a higher return if the deck adds usable square footage to the property.

The best way to sand a deck is by cleaning it, sanding the boards and stairs with 60- or 80-grit sandpaper, and sanding the railings and posts with 80-grit sandpaper. You should sand in the direction of the wood grain to avoid damaging the timber. When sanding your deck, use medium pressure and aim for an even sand. Pressing too hard with a sander can damage decks, as most are softwoods.
