"We had a great experience with Versatile Electrical Services. We contacted them to correct some landscape lighting/wiring issues and help with a stuck ceiling fan dome so we could replace dead lightbulbs. Coordinating with Mac was a breeze, and the team of Carlos, Byron and Arnold who came to our house were also wonderful to work with. Everyone was very helpful, efficient, personable, professional, hard working and happy to answer any questions. The cost was very reasonable, they all went above and beyond, and we will definitely call on them for electrical services when needed. Thanks to all!"

"Our air conditioning system was not working properly. We called the company that put the system in and their technician told us we needed to install a new condenser. We called Parrish for an estimate on a new condenser based on Home Advisor's recommendation. Parrish Services came to our home, performed a diagnosis, and determined we did not need a new condenser. Ended up saving us thousands!"

"Mr. Roher's team designed, built, and install custom built-in shelves and closet insert. We have a small bedroom with an attached crawl space. The team cut open the crawl space, built custom shelves and performed the installation. They also stained and installed baseboard trim. Carpentry work was first quality. Painting was excellent. Mr. Roher also applied putty and sanded imperfections on the bedroom walls. We had a bit of a surprise when when the built-in shelves were built like a box and would not fit through the bedroom door. Door jam had to be removed. There was some wall damage. Mr. Roher did repair; however, not to my husband's satisfaction. Original agreement was to assemble shelving as a box, on-site, in the bedroom itself."

"The provider showed up on time and prepared.  There were some issues with the internal wiring of my house (1930s construction) that complicated installation.  He informed me of my two options -- one was to have the fan installed, but it could not be controlled by the wall switch, or the other was to rewire the wall switch and the wiring to the fan to allow the fan to be controlled by the wall switch -- at a substantial cost.  I liked that he was honest with my about my options rather than merely stating it would cost me extra to install the fan, given the age/condition of the wiring.

"I found out about Competitive Painters from a neighbor who uses them for home improvement projects.  So I contacted them initially about some cabinet work and light electrical work.  Their price was excellent compared to other quotes we received and the finish product was exactly what my wife and I were looking for.  Robert was awesome to work with and was very accesible.  He provided guidance and insight without being pushy.  So when My wife and I purchased a new home and wanted to do some changes to it, of course we called Robert.  He was able to work with us to not be intrusive, his crews kept the work areas clean during the process and we loved the finish product.  I have several additional remodeling projects that I intend to use Competitive Painters again for in the near future."

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

If your home already has wires for a ceiling fan (and optional light kit), then it’s quite safe to wire and install it yourself. Always be very careful to shut off the power before you begin, and confirm that the power is safely off with a non-contact voltage tester before touching anything. It’s also highly recommended to use eye protection, rubberized gloves, and tools with rubber handles to keep yourself safe from electric shock.

To convert a ceiling fan to wireless, you’ll need to install a canopy module to access the lighting and fan controls. Many options are available, all of which help you control specific elements of your ceiling fan, so you have plenty of choices depending on your needs.

Fan power is measured by CFM, or cubic feet per minute. For every 1,000 feet of square footage in your attic, you need a minimum of 700 CFM. Steeper roofs may need larger fans or about 840 CFM.  You can figure the size of attic fan you need by multiplying the square footage of your attic floor by 0.7. (multiply by 1.2 for a steep roof and 1.15 for a dark roof). That number is the CFM required for your fan to run efficiently.

Generally, a ceiling fan should be mounted at least seven feet from the floor in the center of your room with a wall clearance of around 18 inches. If your ceiling is more than eight feet high, it’s recommended by experts that the ceiling fan be mounted around eight to nine feet from the ground. This helps ensure a better quality of circulated airflow.

Most ceiling fans have a lifespan of anywhere from five to 15 years or 10 years on average. Just how long your ceiling fan lasts depends on the quality of the parts, how much it’s used, and how well you maintain it. A fan with a weak motor that runs on the medium setting nonstop is likely to have a shorter lifespan compared to a fan with a powerful motor that runs on the slowest setting for air circulation.
