"I had Jeff, one of their estimators come in and look at what we needed. He knows the do's and don't's of guttering and I appreciated his insight. I have very steep roofs. Jeff agreed that I did not want the guttering on the second floor roof to run off onto the porch roof. He suggested that it run directly into the guttering on the porch roof instead.
This was a two step process. One team installs the guttering while the other comes in afterwards and installs the Gutter Helmet. I think they did a good job. It is now 9 months later and I have no complaints whatsoever. I am really impressed with how much it enhanced the appearance of the home."

"I have used McCarthy before for plumbing issues, and when my AC began to not perform I reached out to them based on that positive experience. The service technician Asghar did a really great job of inspecting the system and explaining the current condition. Really a great experience."

Plumbing questions, answered by experts

A shower cartridge is a component located inside the shower valve. While the terms are sometimes used interchangeably, they are two different parts. The shower valve is the entire device that regulates the flow and temperature of water in your shower. The cartridge is the inner part of the valve that connects to the shower controls, allowing you to adjust the water's temperature and flow by balancing the mix of hot and cold water. While the signs of a failing valve and cartridge can be similar, if you are experiencing issues with water temperature, you may need to replace the entire valve.

Yes. There are a variety of standard pipe sizes used in plumbing. The main supply line connecting your home to the street is either 3/4 or 1 inch in diameter. Supply lines are 3/4 inch in diameter. Individual components are 1/2 inch in diameter. Meanwhile, your main drainpipe is often 4 inches wide. Most shower and bathtub drains are 2 inches in diameter, most toilet drains are 3 inches in diameter, and most sink drainpipes are 1 1/4 or 1 ½ inches in diameter.

It costs anywhere from $150 to $850 to fix a pipe leak, but it could cost even more depending on the damage. The most common kind of pipe leaks, which happen from clogs or grease buildup, cost less than $300 to fix. A burst pipe tends to be the most expensive because it results in significant water damage. Expect to spend $400 to $1,500 to fix the pipe, plus $1,000 to $2,000 on water damage repair.

Plumbing repairs cost $180 to $500, depending on the scope and urgency of the issue. A knocking pipe is usually caused by a problem with the water pressure or air pockets, so the costs will likely fall closer to the low end of that range. Pipe replacement will likely cost more than that since it’s a major project.

The P-trap is an essential part of the shower drain and is installed directly below it. It mainly functions as a barrier, preventing sewer gases and their odors from seeping into your bathroom. It also helps catch clogs so they don’t end up deeper in your home’s plumbing, where they’re more difficult to remove.
