"Boston Consulting was always prompt, responsive, and professional throughout our entire interaction. We obtained 3 bids for the work we needed performed, and while they weren't the cheapest of the 3 prices we received, we felt that they offered a better value and a higher level of quality and professionalism than the others. We would definitely hire them again, no question."

"CSI was flexible and was able to schedule a home inspector the day after I got a bid accepted on a house. The inspector, Patrick, showed up on time and the inspection took about 4 hours. Patrick was responsive to any questions I had by email or live during the inspection. My one recommendation is that I requested a pest, mold, radon, and home inspection. It would be a better heads up if they explained that they sometimes outsource the radon inspection depending on availability of radon inspectors. Also, they can explain a bit more for new home buyers what is involved with a mold inspection. Patrick ended up just eyeing whether he spotted any mold. Because he did not see any mold, we did not have to pay extra for mold samples."

"For the removal of large scale mold and mildew, I recommend you contact RaShaun Murphy of Home Remedies. He recently undertook the task of removing the mold and mildew which had been slowly but steadily growing in my basement over the last several years. Some drywall was seriously affected as were most of the wooden shelves and nearly every other poress surface in that space. Mr. Murphy came to my home and performed a thorough assessment of the damage and provided me with a detailed description of what needed to be done and the cost necessary to make the space safe and inhabitable. He worked quickly and within my budget without compromising the quality of service. It's refreshing to see someone so dedicated to their profession and the work ethic not to just do the job but make things as they should be. I hope I never need remediation services again, but if I do, I know who to call!

"I knew there was mold in the corner of the basement, but when a heat pump cleaning showed that it was spreading throughout the house,  I decided to do something about it right away.  Jumping to the end of the story--the black mold has been removed and the areas seems ok.  Mr. Johnson of Environmental Trust Solutions recommended having the air quality tested and I plan to do that.
However my experience with Environmental Trust Solutions was far from satisfactory.  My first mistake was failing to read carefully the reviews on Angie's List.  I just called and asked to have the mold problem evaluated.  My next mistake was accepting Mr. Johnson's response that he would come the very next day and bring a crew with him..
He came as promised.  He said they could take care of the mold problem and described what would be done.  Another mistake on my part was not insisting on a written estimate or agreement.  He did not offer anything written.  He gave me a price which I suspected was too high, but I must have stopped thinking by that time and accepted it.
So they went to work and as far as I can tell did an acceptable job.  They used a machine with a plastic tube to vent the moldy air.  They had to replace one stud and a section of the wall board.  They used a water proofing material on the affected area and on an adjacent section of the wall for good measure.  They cleaned up very well.
Mr. Johnson emailed me a certificate of completion.  It says his work is guaranteed, provided there is no leakage.  He did not say anything about the condition of the soil outside this part of the basement wall that could cause leakage.  But I plan to have that checked also.

This company did the job I paid them for in spite of my doubts. I followed the recommendation to have another company test for mold several days later. The other company confirmed that everything is fine and my basement is free of mold.

Lead Testing and Removal questions, answered by experts

You should ask a few questions to ensure that your potential lead removal professional is experienced and qualified to handle lead-paint abatement safely, legally, and properly.

  • What are your qualifications and experience removing lead-based paint?

  • Are you licensed and certified to remove lead-based paint?

  • How do you test for lead paint?

  • What methods do you use for lead-based paint abatement?

  • What do you plan to do with the hazardous material when you remove it from the home?

  • Do you do replacement and painting work or removal only?

Avoid disturbing suspected lead-containing materials and follow professional guidance on sample collection.

If the lead paint is in a place that is not easily disturbed and is not flaking or deteriorating, you do not necessarily need to remove it. Lead is toxic when dust particles or flakes from peeling lead paint are ingested. If people are not in the area with the lead paint, it may be safe to leave it in place. You still may want to consider encapsulation with a paint formulated for covering lead-based paint, just for an added layer of protection.

While not all homes built before 1978 contain lead paint, enough do, so you’ll still want to test to be on the safe side. The federal government banned lead-based paint for homes in 1978, but your state may have banned lead before that time. Around 24% of homes built between 1960 and 1977 contained lead-based paint, while 87% of homes built before 1940 contained lead-based paint.

Lead exposure poses serious health risks, particularly for children, and can be present in paint, pipes, and soil.
