"Grout Masters can do more than grout. They removed shower doors, repaired damaged wood, saved and re-used tiles for the repair area and re-tiled the shower floor for us. They installed shower shelves and caulked everywhere needed in the bathroom. They were super knowledgeable about the process and materials. We are so happy with their work!"

"We used Samâ s Home Improvement to create our backsplash. He had a good price, and we were very impressed with his subcontractor, Luis Quispe, who actually did the tile work. He understood our plans, gave some suggestions, and was flexible with changes. The end result is fabulous."

Customers say: Quality work

"CJ Claros was excellent. We had a grout/leak problem in two of our stall showers - problem with the original installation years ago. CJ completely rebuilt them for us and then retiled them. He was so careful with the original tile that he was able to reuse them so we didn't have to buy all new tile. That saved us thousands. His work was impeccable, neat and performed in a timely manner. While he didn't have to, he replaced the damp insulation and fixed the ceiling in the room below that has a couple dime-sized water stains. He did the work the right way - as if it was for his own home. I will absolutely have CJ Claros return for additional projects that we are planning."

"Our second floor bathroom required a complete remodel, including plumbing, flooring, drywall, and fixtures. The Nicholas and Associates work crew did an impeccable job. Mike, Davis, Edgar, and Marco were excellent to work with, from start to finish."

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

Your tiles will have a significant visual impact on your bathroom, so you’ll want to make a thoughtful decision. Once you land on the tile material that suits your needs and budget, you can consider the color schemes you want. Consider whether you want something modern, classic, or eye-catching.

Different types of tile cutters may work best depending on the type of tile you are cutting and the size of your project. There are two main types of tile cutters: manual and electric. Manual tile cutters are quick and easy to use for small projects and softer tile materials, but they can only make straight cuts. Electric tile cutters make light work of big projects and can cut through harder materials.

Yes, provided you aren’t installing drywall over it. But you can skim coat it, apply new tile right on top, paint it, or stencil it. For more budget- and DIY-friendly options, you can install beadboard or apply decals. Just make sure that the current tiles are in good condition and prepped well for the paint or adhesive to stick.

Tile installation can be expensive because it requires more time and labor to install than many other materials. For example, laminate flooring can click and lock into place, and carpet comes in large rolls that you can secure to the floor. On the other hand, tiles need to be cut, laid individually, grouted, and left to cure.

There are no unbreakable rules of design, but experts recommend against using large tiles in areas with poor subflooring where they’re more prone to cracking, in areas where the floor isn’t entirely level, over raised areas or dips, and in bathrooms where budget is the primary concern. The size of your bathroom shouldn’t be a reason not to use large tiles; in fact, larger tiles, also known as slab tiles, can be a modern and sleek choice for bathroom floors and walls.
